They don't give prices for just the Sunday, which is a bit strange. Anyway I hope to be there, but I know how gigs can suddenly  be  announced out of the blue, so I won't be rushing to book too early. We'll have a much better idea in a few months if the Rats are going to do a bit more touring.

One thing about this festival is that it gives the band the chance to maybe try out new songs, ,if they are going to do a new album. Or will it just be the same set as on the recent tour? Maybe the new year will be a clean break for the Rats with some good new songs, and some new reasons to get excited about their music.

Noel, they are going to be selling day only tickets in the New Year, once all acts are confirmed and they know who's doing which day.

Thanks Jules. It's a bit like Chagstock. I'm going for the Rats primarily and if there is one or two decent acts on before then well and good. Not sure to come via Birmingham or Bristol- i think it's about equal distance from either airport!

I will see the act before the Rats to get a good spot, otherwise it's all too much.

I would guess the transport might be better from Birmingham, but have never travelled to Cheltenham from either by public transport.

The rail service between Bristol and Birmingham goes via Cheltenham and the trains are frequent during the day, however I'd fly to Birmingham as there's a rail station at Birmingham International airport with a very frequent service to New Street for the train to Bristol.

Bristol airport is miles from the rail station.

Hope this helps- Melv

Thanks Melv. I'm the sort of person who loves journey planning and pouring over maps and rail timetables. Not sure if that is odd, more an interest in geography and travel really! It's not the destination but the journey, as they say! i love trains and the different routes and train operation companies and all that.smile

I asked them again. An announcement is being made next week on sale of day tickets. I hope they do an early bird lower price version initially.

If you can find any pub that serves veggie food in the centre of Cheltenham then I'm ok with that.  I did have a search but the vegetation options seem pretty limited. No shortage of pubs though.

I expect to be in Cheltenham at around 4pm or a little later on the Sunday. To be honest I don't even know who else is on the Sunday night lineup. I'm really only going to  see the Rats because the are the headline act- I have no wish to be in the venue too early.

Also only going to see the Rats, but want to get there I good time to try and get a good view. They are headlining though so 4 pm at a pub could work well. Not sure how far they are from the racecourse, but I gather there is plenty of parking there, so no need to rush. I will do some research in that case.

This is a apparently the nearest pub to the racecourse. On veggie option on menu. Shown on website: www.royal-oak-prestbury.co.uk/pubfoodMenucheltenham.html. It also says they cater for veggies and special diets, just ask.

I've no idea where the racecourse is! I'd rather have a look around the town centre in the afternoon. I think there are a few pubs with veggie options in the centre of town. I'll do some research too!

Let me know. That one is rather expensive. It may be normal for Cheltenham, it may not!

we could always arrange to pick you up on our way in.

I'll be getting the train down from Birmingham and due into Cheltenham Spa station. My hotel  is in the town centre. Anyway it's not a big deal, well find somewhere.

Just had a quick look, there's a few places. I will have a proper look tomorrow and will find out if we can park nearby. I also need one that caters for a wheat and dairy free diet, although not completely essential as I could take my own snack.

How about the Langton, here is the menu: www.thelangton.co.uk/menus/dinner/ There is parking and we can arrange lifts amongst those who have cars and those who don't.

I'm happy with The Langton. I can get a  taxi out from the town centre after I check into my hotel. But I need to check into the hotel in the afternoon when I arrive.

Unfortunately with planes and trains there can sometimes be delays, but all going  well I should be in Cheltenham around 4pm. Realistically the earliest I could be at The Langton is  about 5-5.30pm. Maybe that's  when Jules will be heading off for her early queuing?smile

I've got no idea what time the Rats are on, or even who else is on the bill!

I'm just guessing they will be on  about 9pm  or thereabouts.

Lee Thompson is from Madness, though I'm not big into ska or any orchestrated version of it either. KHS and the Going Goods is hip hop.

Sadie and the Hotheads and Polly/Billet Doux are female led 'indie' types. What you really needed was a well known rock/indie band supporting the Rats. Anyway hope it's a good one. I don't feel as excited as last year to be honest, mainly because the festival line ups are pretty rubbish, apart from the Rats, of course.

Jules let us know if you are going to the Langton and at what time? I should be there about 5-5.30 on Sunday. If you have other plans, or can't make it just let me know. You'll probably meet Suss on Saturday. The Langton is not too far from Cheltenham town centre so it should be ok, unless you have other ideas?

Hope you enjoy the gig at All Cannings. See you  on Sunday afternoon. I think the weather will be ok-16-20C maybe with the odd shower, but no danger of a deluge or anything.

Well worth the trip over, even though the set and performance might be a bit predictable! Crowd of about 5,000 I'm guessing, hard to tell but certainly comfortably 'full' for a Sunday night. Weather perfect too. More straight music and a bit less chit chat in between the songs. Band all wearing the same outfits except Darren who was in a nice new suit.

Good range of audience ages. I'm still shocked to look around and see people in their twenties and thirties mouthing all the words. Lots of teenagers there too who knew all the songs. Obviously have proper parents!

I though the crowd was a bit less overtly enthusiastic than at some of the other gigs, but then I don't believe that everyone must be seen to be dancing to be enjoying themselves. They paid their money so the can do what they like!

Most people seemed to know all the earlier album tracks so it wasn't just about Mondays and Rat Trap. Someone shouted out 'Johnnie Fingers' when Alan was doing a piano riff so  not sure if they were aware of the full band line up.

Bob said  something like 'A lovely summer evening in June with the best rock 'n  roll band in the world (from Dun Laoghire), what more could you want? Indeed.

Yes I've bough my plane/ concert ticket for Guildford, just need to get a hotel. Yes I've met Kat in Dublin twice and somewhere else too. Just couldn't remember her name. Even though  she prefers Bob solo to the Rats she traveled over to Wiltshire and Cheltenham gigs which was impressive. You don't do things like that without being a big fan. Or else being a bit madsmile

Hope the Rats play in the autumn winter as the airfares  and hotels are normally a lot lower.

I was  actually in Birmingham city centre yesterday for a few hours as I had an afternoon flight and a few hours to kill. Had a walk around the Bull Ring, Corporation St High st etc, Vic Square, all all that area near the station.

It's easy to walk around but a bit 'soulless', with an emphasis on shopping centres. Not unpleasant though and a change of scene is always good.

Cheltenham is a bit funny in that all the interesting bits are away from the High Street- the High St area is nice in one part and bit run down in the other. It seems well spread out from the three taxi journeys I had to take there with the nicer parts outside the town centre.
