Anybody else think that very little is being promoted by the Rats themselves?.The last 2 dates in Germany are still yet to be confirmed any where. It all seems a little quiet with just 2 weeks until Hamburg.

That looks pretty good, and less than £30 per ticket.  Will see how things are going nearer the time.

Guess who has tickets to U2 for that night?  nobiggrin.  There was bound to be a clash one day, wasn't there?

How much are you selling the U2 tickets for?

Killers are in Hyde Park, but not got a ticket for that.  I should book a cheap hotel in Guildford and keep my options open. No cheap hotels in Guildford, but a day trip is feasible as last train to london is 11.30pm.  The all night tube will work from Waterloo.   Cancelled next month's Dublin hotel.

Indeed.  You ain't the biggest Geldof fan anymore.

When I was faced with the choice of The Bradbury Rats in Dublin or Pulp in Sheffield, I opted for the former on the basis that The Rats would probably disband and that would be their last proper gig.  Ironically, it was Pulp's last gig and the Rats then fully reformed...

... that said I am pleased I went to Dublin, it was a great night.

Far fewer Rats dates this year.  I would have expected a few more festival dates to have been announced by now.  Maybe organisers don't want them after Brentwood!

This isn't a fan site, it is a forum and depends on its members to notify other members about what is happening.

Not mentioned on boomtownrats.co.uk nor facebook.  Other fan sites? Pah.

Did this take place?

http://www.thejournal.ie/geldof-cyprus-concert-controversy-3352623-Apr2017/

BOB GELDOF HAS drawn the ire of Greek Cypriots, who this week urged him to cancel a concert he is due to play tonight in the Turkish-occupied north of the divided island.

The veteran Irish singer and his band, The Boomtown Rats, are set to play a free gig at the Eastern Mediterranean University in the port city of Famagusta but the planned event has drawn widespread condemnation from Cyprus Greek-speaking community.

A concert in the occupied north of Cyprus just goes to show the division between what you say & what you do!, said one irate Twitter user.

Yes it took place and was attended by up to 15,000 people apparently (t vine review below). Geldof and the band performed because, Geldof said, Cyprus was a divided island like Ireland and had similar conflict amongst it's people. He urged , perhaps naively, for all to put aside their differences. Most of the audience were students  or younger people  so were likely to be more open or  fair minded about the future of their island. Not for me to talk about the rights or wrongs of playing here but Geldof is not a stupid person and knows enough about politics to make up his own mind.

Anyway two good reviews  here:

Plenty of Greek Cypriots go there all the time taking advantage of cheap flights, cheap shopping, duty free and the casinos.  Maybe Geldof is just preparing for life  on the fringes of the EU

Geldof does play some off the beaten track places, and 15,000 is a hell of an audience.

I thought initially this was a bit of a strange one , but it seems to have gone down quite well judging by a few of the videos I've seen. Audience look pretty keen and the reviews mention that the fans seem to know all the songs.

Geldof criticised Egdogan and Putan and this got a cheer according to the review by Chris Roberts. There is a sizeable British population living in Cyprus, estimated at up to 80,000, so I'm sure some of those took advantage of the occasion  to see the Rats. My take is that it was a chance for people to enjoy some music and put politics aside.Politics seems to be taking over everything nowadays.

No desire to piss on anyone's chips but there were no more than 1000 at EMU from what I could see. Were lively though. Not sure they actually knew songs, but were very happy to enjoy them

One of the newspaper reports claimed 'an estimated 15,000 people attended'.The other one by Steven Roberts guessed 'several thousand', so I'm just using their figures. Thought 15,000 was a bit high for a rock concert  in a country not recognised by the EU.Might have been a gloss put on the attendence figures by the reporter but he seems to know his stuff about the Rats and was not some government stooge.smile

Again it was Roberts who said 'the majority were students yet they seemed to know the songs'.It all depends on where you are standing I suppose.

Anyway must have been one of the more interesting places on yer travels.Hope you brought back a Fez.

Preckyfest cancelled, and from what I am aware of One Live is not shifting that many tickets - they were half price on Ticketmaster a month or so ago.  Maybe festivals are just not so popular anymore.  No summer gigs planned for myself, just TRB to look forward to later this year.  Given my disposition to be in the vicinity of London terrorist knife attacks, don't go near Oxford Street on 24th October!
