He's not British. But that's never stopped him appearing in such lists in the past! 100 greatest Britons....furious How dare he not be in there?

We aren't the only ones who think so.  Someone thinks they've got Bowie and Geldoff 'sic' mixed up...

I thought "British" included Irleland (I believe most people in the world believe that...these days, anyhow...kind of like America meaning more than the United States...)...

Maybe they should call it the English (England) top ten...

I am not understanding how they came up with some of them...
I would love to see written justifications...
It is wealthy isn't it...these are the people who have ALL of the money or control the "secret" ingredient...

Is that so..?evileye

Just for fun...I am going to show everyone the difference between Simon Crowe and Simon Cowell...( I myself...who knows Simon Cowell in even his baby pictures...have found myself on web pages where they are giving that horrendous Simon CowL credit for him as a former member of The Boomtown Rats...)....the first Simon Crowe I found, of course is not who I was looking for...but if Simon wanted to read some of my "episodes" (that's funny) over on the George Clooney IMDB website...he might look into all the people out there who are sharing his name and wonder about what they do for a living in relation to him...
The not really...
http://www.latrobe.edu.au/psy/staff/crowes.html
The actual...
http://www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~bananarp/sub20(simoncrowe).htm
(Peter's website is almost exactly the same...no sense reinventing the wheel...I guess...right Simon Cowell?...)...
Simon Cowell
http://www.tv.com/simon-cowell/person/104611/summary.html

A neumonic device...
Simon Crowe with an e, you'll want to see (he's cute...)....
Simon CowL with cows, is flailing to wow...(that show they do with the cardboard cutout singers is very questionable artistically....)...( I liked him LOTS four or five years ago...we ALWAYS had the same opinion and if I changed mine while I was watching the show...or made a "smart" comment he followed suit...I have had a "musical" education since then...and am no longer impressed by our similar opinions to say the least...blankstare

Linda, Britain means England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom means all of those plus Northern Ireland. If you called someone from  Southern Ireland (Eire),  British, they would probaly string you up from the nearest lampost. It is like calling a Canadian , American. You can see the smoke coming out from their ears.

scottie's right.....well technically, but I understand your confusion. Geographically we're close and were good neighbours although we've had some disagreements. (not belittling past events and innocent lives)
However if you want some further reading and viewing/listening try this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Free_State

'Michael Collins' the movie
'The wind that shakes the barley' movie

As regards what geldof would think, I would say he doesn't care. Hes not nationalistic at all. He's left here (Ireland) with a bee in his bonnet several times. We got 'banana republic' written about us and the British got 'another piece of red' written about them.

Should he be honoured by Britain? why not, I'm sure he enjoys the praise, and if he's not on the list, well, I suppose the excuse is that its all about newspaper sales. who cares.

By the way 'The piece of red' that was Ireland turned green on 6th December 1922.

He sure supports the Irish rugby team though. I had to get him the Ireland/Scotland rugby score the last time I met him. He is still Irish at heart I think. He often refers to himself as Paddy.

hope i haven't opened a can of worms here...i just think geldofs past history wouldn't indicate he would be overly interested in ireland. However, he does say he's glad to be here when he plays in dublin. its nice to hear he supports irish rugby, i wonder if that goes back to blackrock college days... maybe i should include it in my tour of dublin project? as for bono well he seems to like it here except there may be cracks showing... especially when it comes moneysmile check this one out...
