Apparently Geldof has been planning this for 20 years... No need for me to write that's the projected gestation period for his next album, is there? Ah, I did anyway!
Bob Geldof and the BBC have unveiled plans for a website and television series that aim to record every human society.
The Dictionary of Man website and an eight-part television series, The Human Planet, will be made with help from BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial arm.
Fair enough, but from the title and the content of the thread (I didn't follow the link), it wasn't obvious it was the same thing. I did search before I posted, but Dictionary of Man did not highlight anything.
ArrGee wrote:It's a good idea to notify people of this sort of thing, but it might be worth checking if it has already been covered elsewhere with a search and just bump the original post. That said, this one wasn't obvious from the title nor the text in the post, so perfectly reasonable to have a new thread with a more explicit subject. 1-0 ..... mmmmmm
This is a fans forum and unfortunately (sadly) we don't have Bob's contact details. I would suggest you get in touch with the BBC through their website. It is probably the most appropriate route to take. Good luck!
That will be so interesting... Lately I have been wishing we'd have a big world "come home year"...a big world census...I think we are in need of one to see where everyone is really from...it will help science a great deal...as well as the many, many other educational domains that are linked to our heritage and blood lines...
Thank-you Bob for another wonderful thing to look forward too...the new material for the album(s) will probably be too plentiful to even imagine with you involved in such an all-encompassing project...Hopefully, Bob will write and sing his songs as he goes...maybe he'll take Pete along with him...to keep him on task (apparently)...
Lucky you!
When I was a "wee" girl...I had a book...two actually...they were lost in our last move (oh no...something else I hadn't noticed I was missing...)...they were all about world cultures and geography...There was a big wall map at the back of one (in a handy dandy little cover pouch) and a map of, I believe it was, space in the other...I am more of a world person...aside from Jupiter...(I did a project on Jupiter in school...it is my planet...)... A great resource I'd love for him to find while he's doing it (he could maybe have them post the pages, or links, online...it was a school book...is an orange Geography book I had in fourth grade (Robinson's Nfld. Canada)...it had so many beautifully written stories about children all over the world...teaching us things about social studies and geography in general...it was illustrated with pictures from places around the world...when you read it...even in grade four...you immediately became friends with the children in the "story" and were transported to their "home" to learn about their way of life (it is how I still remember what fallow land is...)...
I am VERY VERY excited about this project...

You know, Bob looks great in that suit, but can't we get him something else to wear. Maybe Ric O. should go take Bob shopping...
Peace & take care, debm
