Thx Scottie, Thats such a blast! I love G. Roberts tigerskin pants. It brings me back to my red and black striped pants I bought at Lynn Geldofs shop on Aungiers st., Dublin, probably 25 years ago. The shop was called 'No Romance', the name probably taken from 'Joey'. I think they're in the wardrobe somewhere! And yes they probably would still fit! (with a squeeze) nicky

It wasn't specifically. And certainly not about Janet Street Porter nor Mariella Frostrup.
"I never liked Shes So Modern on that record, I always thought that was ****e because Id set out to get us into the Top 10. Id been in London and Id been meeting all the girls on the scene then, so Paula (Yates) was one of them, Magenta Devine, Julie Burchill was one of the girls on the scene. And they were a bit of a pain. And so thats why I wrote Shes so 20th century, shes so 1970s/She knows the right thing to say/Shes got the right clothes to wear but the truth is I put every hook in there that was possible, to get us into the Top 10 cause otherwise we were over. But I like that record. Like Clockwork was good but then that was mainly Pete ripping off Psycho Killer by Talking Heads."
The telex machine is outdated too but in the seventies was cutting edge, like the silicon chip. Phones in songs sound more romantic than blackberries. Imagine Blondie Hanging On The Blackberry. The possibilities are endless for old songs to be updated with new tech lyrics.
Even in movies its becoming increasingly difficult for people to be lost and completely cut off from the world, but the still somehow manage to do it in most horror films, stretching the credibility of the plot to the very limits.
Some band a few years ago called their album Ten New Messages, hardly one of the great rock album titles!
