Bob Geldof, who walked out of the Boomtown Rats in 1987 has made a legal objection to founder members GARRY ROBERTS and SIMON CROWE calling themselves The Boomtown Rats

http://www.smartermusic.net/boomtown.htm

Somehow, I kinda like "The Rats!"

or to give them their full name....

The Rats - Featuring original founder members of The Boomtown Rats Garry Roberts & Simon Crowe

TRFOFMOTBRGRASC

I suppose Geldof will be stopping them playing the songs next - just cos no one wants to see him play.  Boo hoo.

Well, if Sky News gets a hold of the story, they may get a bit of publicity smile.

Well Sir Bob you should of been at The 100 Club The Rats rocked and you may of learnt a thing or two about Rock music being played as it was meant to be.  The 100 Club was a brilliant gig and no doubt the lads have got more to give. It was good to see them spend time with the fans. Do you remember the fans Sir Bob because of them and THE BOOMTOWN RATS made you famous and wealthy. Now you are famous again for being a knob by stopping them using the full Band name.
Well they say that you cant stop real talent and you certainly have not.

GO ON YOU RATS

nice words steve, what is it with these ex lead singers? bob was my hero growin up but he's bein a right dick,as is weller who wont let bruce & rick use "the jam" name, lets face it,both would be nobody's without the bands, but as its them who wrote the lions share of songs, obviously their ego's outweigh any equalities that bein in a band is supposed be about.
cheers Rat

Well it is a shame that the lead singers of these bands forget that it is the band talents that make them sound so good. I cant see Bono leaving U2 in such a rush. Not when the Band help him make a £100 Million.
Well Sir Bob made a pound or too to live in Kent. Now i hear he has slag that too.

Don't mean to cause offence but I think stevethepunk is being a webit of a hypocrite here with his "sir bob you made a pound or two" considering that he is already selling his soul, sorry ticket and set list for 100 Club gig to the highest bidder on EBAY for the gig of the century bar U2 / Pistols finest hour etc.....

Sort of remember Simon Crowe doing the same in the"News of the Screws" a while ago.
I think we all need a Reality Check before we slag off Geldof who worked his bollocks off to keep the "RATS" afloat when others were oh to quick to abandon a sinking ship....

Can't wait for the Simon Crowe/Garry Roberts encore

As someone who has seen Bob so many times I've lost count and who hs also seen The Rats at every Gig they have done recently I have to agree with Steve that The Rats play the songs how they should be played and they are absolutely brilliant which hopefully is a pleasant surprise to all those who slagged them off when it was first announced that they were playing at the Rebellion Festival but I have to disagree with the comment about Bob not caring about the fans because regardless of whatever is going on between Boomtown Rats members Bob always comes out and speaks to fans after every Gig, even in Milan which was bit of a farce he came out and apologised and when I asked him about it ( yes it was me) and told him he'd spoiled our holiday he told Ian and myself he would fly us back out to see the next Gig and indeed he did along with a couple of others.

I did not even get a reply from Bobs people when I asked about the "2nd" Milan concert.I am glad you got to go again after the first concert was cancelled.Pity Eddie from the Happy Fan Club quit after that episode.

Hi Derek

The reason we went back to Milan was because I asked Bob direct in Milan when he came out to apologise for the gig being cancelled, not through other people and whatever happened between Bob and Eddie doesn't change the fact that he does come out and speak to fans after every gig. Being a Rats fan I would go and see any of the original members with any band they play in whether it be The Rats, Gung Ho, Bob, Jiggerypipery or any others unlike some people who only go to see Bob since he did Live Aid.
