There's one track on SAD which I always skip: Birthday Suit. As I've writen somewhere else, it always makes me cry and has even done so when I heard it live. Quite embarrassing to cry at a concert...

Shortly after SAD was released, I heard BG play Birthday Suit live in the studio during a radio show on Potsdam based Radio One. His voice went dangerously wobbly at some point during the song. The radio interviewer sounded a bit throaty after Bob had ended, and I was sniffing too in front of the radio. Such an amotional song!

The song I like best is "Pale white girls". I could listen to that one non stop.

Birthday suit is an incredibly moving song and hard to listen to. I don't listen that often to this entire album because of what it all represents for bob and I find it upsetting

I love this album and it's my favorite of BG's solo work. I like the wide variety of instruments, tunes, and Bob's emotions used within the songs. but yeah I have to admit, I feel kind of guilty or something listening to it because it's so personal to him. as he's said, he wrote it for him, not the public or anyone else. and it is somewhat discomforting for me to get 'into' (ie sing along with in the car, etc.) any of those songs b/c they're not happy songs, they're painful snapshots of what Geldof was going through at the time, and again that guilt comes in.

I've teared up a couple of times listening to My Birthday Suit. Both the lyrics and how Bob sings the song really makes me, sappy as it sounds, feel sad for him, since he was so hurt by being rejected as he's mentioned in several interviews. It's a very 'pretty' song, sound-wise, and sad at the same time. It's my favorite track on the album.

Others I really like include One for me, Mudslide, and Scream in Vain.

what a great album!
just wondering about one thing, when I saw him live one guy in the crowd requested "Mudslide" and bob replyed " thats a crapy song" or something like that and refused to play it. Whats up with that? I love that song!

I'm new to Bob/Boomtown Rats' music so I haven't heard it yet, I've only heard a few albums! Can't wait to get more!
