I know that without seeing this film in the first place I probably wouldn't have known who bob, and the rats, are....are there any else who discovered Bob through the Wall?
great movie too, though watching it too often might really bring you down...
"BG sorta captivated me from his Pink portrayal (from "The Wall"). His looks were interesting, and during a few parts, I thought he was pretty attractive. Though he did a lot of sitting around n what not, he was believable in being mentally troubled, and didn't overact or anything. From his apathy, to his aching for 'ms. floyd,' to mentally snapping with the groupie, to his 'show' transformation, I felt he acted well and seemed to put considerable effort into his character, in all of his mental / physical states."
This was my first exposure to him. I had no idea whatsoever who the Boomtown Rats were, when it was mentioned in the DVD extras. I really loved him in the movie and yeah, The Wall is one of my favorite films. Creeped me out the first time I saw it a couple of years ago but that's part of what made me like it. I thought the middle-aged Pink child actor did a great job, too, I liked him a lot.
It wasn't until a few months later until I started researching him more. all is explained under the 'what's the attraction' topic under "Bob Geldof."
Some favorite scenes from the movie include...
- The entire "one of my turns" song, good to finally see Pink in action!
- the part where beautiful guitar & violin music is played, after "Is there anybody out there" is sung...and yeah, that includes the shaving scene
- all the parts when Pink's a fascist ...great acting, cool looking
I`m Duran Duran fan. My favorite music is end of the 70th and the 80th. But I have never heard about Boomtown rats and about Bob Geldof too. One day I’ve seen picture of Duran Duran bassist with Bob in message board! I was shocked. I think he is funny on these pictures, but I did not see his pictures before. And that impression was first for me. People wrote about them: “…two very beautiful male, two talented musicians … together!! In 1 magazine! Wonderful”
And now I almost understand them. ;) I remember Bob and when I saw advertising of Wall I recognized him! My father is Pink Floyd fan and we watched this film together. I am still under impression!!! At first, I found him as very beautiful and original man. I like Bob very much. I couldn’t see how pure Pink was suffering. Mrs. Floyd did mistake ignoring him. :( At second, I liked interesting composition of this movie. Films about which you will think are the best! And after watchining The wall I have included this film in my favorite list.

Bob and The Wall... great! He was so brilliant in the film! well, I can't imagine Roger Waters in the role of Pink. he's very ugly. Bob is charming and beautiful.
Charming & beautiful are hardly the words I'd use to describe Geldof's Pink. He was a miserable, drug-taking, brooding, anti-social young man who had a disturbing (to him) & unhappy childhood, and let all his depressing bricks build up into a fascist mindset.
Bob was great as Pink, I think, just not charming and beautiful. That's not what Pink was meant to be.
Roger Waters - he would've been a bad actor, I believe. He did do a screentest for his own Pink but got rejected! Plus, it may have been kind of 'too close to home' for him, making the whole movie a mess. Maybe.
I mean Roger is ugly and Bob is beautiful. of course! hmmm... I discovered Bob through the film. he immediately charmed me. he was lovely. although the film isn't a very happy story.
well, I respect Roger Waters as a musician cos he can do great things and I like his lyrics too but he's ugly anyway.
The Wall and Bob staring in it was brilliant to say the least, I have to admit I was a big sap when I seen him bleed and near the end where he "died" and they where working on him my lord I cryed like a baby awesome acting mate luv ya cheers
that's great. we have media class too. we have to watch several stupid and idiotic films. I asked the teacher to watch The Wall but she doesn't really want to.
Hey - anyone got anything to say about the DVD? The new one that's out there? I loved the film in High School, but that was like, god, almost 20 years ago, and I haven't watched my battered old VHS copy of it since... while, at 15, I loved the whole film, as time goes by, I find I pretty much just enjoy seeing Bob in it, and had heard that he's not featured too much in any of the DVD extras, so I blew off getting it... but I'd like to see a nice Widescreen version of it, and the new packaging is pretty handsome...
I've just read that some parts of the film (I mean the second world war parts) were recorded near Barnstaple... oh my god! I was there in September. beautiful town, nice people (do any of you know Tom? he's a well-known person in the city...)
back to the film... I have to say I'm very lucky cos I was there where some parts of The Wall were recorded
Does anyone know who wrote the script, was it Roger Waters? Who wrote the music? Cool film, maybe as I am restless I will go and watch it again now.
both the album The Wall, as well as the movie were written by Roger Waters, yes...
who wrote the music? uh, well the floyds all helped, but mainly Waters..since the Wall is semi autobiographical, and mr Waters at that time was more and more convinced he was Floyd, he wouldn't really let the others decide all that much... oh well.
(interesting trivia: the guitarsolo from Comfortably numb was actually a left-over from David Gilmours first soloalbum -78)
well, we watched The Wall today. my classmates didn't show any interest towards the film. hmmm. they were speaking and laughing continuously, only a few people payed attention to what's happening...
when the film started there was an incredible loud noise in the classroom. you should have seen those shocked faces when In The Flesh? started... the volume was on maximum and you know this song begins pretty loudly... sign of astonishment on the faces... all eyes on the screen...
after that they didn't really care about the film. during the louder parts they were blinking towards the telivision trying to understand what the f***'s happening...
my classmates know something about Floyd (I'm a big Pink Floyd fan since I went to secondary school) but they have no idea of Bob... last Monday a boy said he's fed up with the whole day and all his feelings can be expressed by "Tell me why I don't like Mondays". and he also sang this line... my reaction was something like this...
I just love the movie.. it is so cool aand bob is so good in it. and i love the song "comfortably numb", it's so beautiful. the best part is when he grab the window and start to bleed.. it is so fabulous. love it.
