Hi,

Good news for US fans of Sir Bob...

For those of you in America - don't miss getting Sir Bob's new book right now on his travels in Africa, go to www.Amazon.UK.  You can get it for ~ $14.00 US and have it delivered in about 7-10 days for an additional ~$10.00.  FYI.

At the moment, Amazon US says it's coming out July 26. We shall have to wait til after Live8 7 after, dare I say, Harry Potter as well. Will it be about Live Aid? Did he go there as part of his own interest in Africa? When did he go? Thanks. I didn't expect a book. Nice.

Hi,

You have to go to the Amazon.UK site.  The Amazon.US site still doesn't have the book.

SBG compiled GELDOF IN AFRICA book from his many trips to the continent.  It is insighful and sometimes funny!  Like the cell phone call he got from one of his daughters (who was in London) wanting to know if she could spend the night at a girlfriends...SBG was in the midst of traveling in secret, at night, in a bad area, his entourage was trying to keep quiet, and SBGs cell phone goes off!  YIKES!

Very enjoyable book.

Hi,

Try ordering the book from Amazon.UK.com.  You might be able to get it delivered to your Australia address.

Other than that, I do not know when it will be available for sell in stores in Australia.

Ohhhh, try ebay!

If you really want the book - I will order and send to you.  I can get you price of book and S/H costs prior to purchase.  Let me know by replying to this forum post!

I was leafing through the book in Waterstone's the other day and must say (before my teenage daughter hissed at me, "Mum, this isn't a library!") it looked quite good.

Amazon.co.uk have put the price back up to £12.00 but that's still the cheapest I've seen the book anywhere. It's at sales rank 98 today.

Would someone who's actually bought and read it please post a proper review on the Amazon site though! The two reviews that are there are both questioning where the profits of the book's sales will go, and give no indication of whether the book's any good or not. (Makes me a bit cross as I'm sure no-one asked such questions about Michael Palin's various books accompanying his TV travel shows.)

I will post something tomorrow on Amazon, as I am just finishing the book today.  So far, I find his writings excellant and the book is written in an unusual style, which I really liked, as SBG writes about his time in Africa through unique stories and beautiful pictures (lots of africian history) - not all that are his (pictures), but many are.  Pages 224 - 226 about "Little Killers" I found especially well written, yet sad.  Pages 230 - 231 are some headlines that SBG reports on - nice expressive writing style of putting these newspaper headlines in the content of the book.  Funny!  Good historical information given throughout for several regions of Africa, most of which I had either forgotten or did not even know.  "Sexy Jungle" on page 288 I found made my breathing become labored!  Wish I was the girl he was thinking about...   I quote SBG:

"...locked away inside this dense, sexy hothouse of mad, wild, verdant fertility and abandon.  I wish I had a girl here.  I want to do it too. Now."  WHEW!  Me, too!  But only with you, Bob!  Man!
