If you are reading this, I wish to congratulate you on using your power to raise awareness of the plight of the world's neediest. I wish to congratulate you on using your power to raise awareness that poverty is not something that "just happens" and that the political and corporate elite can make a real difference by dropping debts. With your power you have made the jump from "raising money" to "raising awareness" and this is a fantastic thing you have done.
With this in mind my friends, I urge you to consider asking protestors to amass on the roads to Gleneagles on July 6th rather than to march in Scottish cities. I urge you to consider encouraging your fans to block the roads to the G8 meetings by sitting down in them. I urge you to consider asking protestors to engage in non-violent direct action by physically and peacefully stopping the corrupt G8 meeting from going ahead.
Why? Because political leaders are way too likely to ignore us and our marches in the cities. Time and again the politicians have put corporate interests above the needs of the people. It is way too likely that they will ignore you and then where will we be? Back to square one with 30,000 children continuing to die.... daily....
Consider the history of civil disobedience - it has gained us everything from the right for women to vote, through to Black America being allowed to sit on buses, through to numerous events of a dangerous and malicious nature being shut down.
I realise you feel you are doing the best you can within your power, and I urge you to consider raising the stakes by encouraging civil disobedience in this instance.
