I think it's self evident, not as a criticism, but as a point of query, namely as using the issue of tacling poverty by increasing one's appearance fees to coincide with the Live8 concert. It sort of defeats his own message, in a way. That's the point!!!!!
That's undoubtably a lot of money but it's only natural his fees would go up after he has become a news item. I don't see the point, either, of the first post, although it is interesting by itself to see the amounts...plus the good news, since I'm in the US, is that he'll be making the rounds here. He will have a lot to say, I'm sure...another reason why the fees would be greater AFTER the event.

Mmmm, considering how well off Geldof is (mainly through Ten Alps and previously Planet 24; plus royalties from an old band of his), those appearance fees would be small change.
Anyway, he may well give money away from appearances like that. I doubt he makes that many.

The thing is people are here for numerous reasons. Some of us are old Rats fans, some admire his humanitarian work, etc. So being a fan means many things. I see no problem with someone being a Geldof fan yet disagreeing with Live 8.
Personally, I think Geldof's reasons for doing it were sound, even if ultimately it's not of much benefit to Africa. Increasing his appearance fees, wouldn't justify putting himself out on a limb as he did.
At least, he tries. I am far more cynical about other's participation.
