jay bennett's posthumous new album 'kicking at the perfumed air' has just been released and contains a cover of diamond smiles. The former Wilco guitarist must have been a fan of the Rats as it was his favourite BTR song and was recorded without the actual words written down so he acknowledges a few might be wrong.

It's a radically different working in a ramshackle alt. country style that for me at least really works. I like the fact the tension builds to the moment of suicide and the song ends pretty quickly after this with a 'Mondays' piano arrangement. Whilst i love the original (it was the first 7" i bought) i have always felt the na na nas were too much filler.

Anyway, it can be downloaded for free at www.jay-bennett.com
Check it out.

I quite liked the cover, though the original is better (but I agree with the excessive na na nas).  Yep, nice little touch with the Mondays piano arrangement to tail off.  His singing is not unlike Geldof's.  Gonna have to check him & Wilco out on Spotify.
