Having their pictures taken!

Hi - I was wondering about fans favourite photos of the Boomtown Rats. I would say there are loads to choose from, but my fave is the one with the band sitting on the stairs on the Diamond Smiles video set festooned with balloons.

This one appeared in an issue of Jackie magazine which my sister used to get,so that was my introduction to it (don't ask why I was reading Jackie!)

With the Internet I've seen so many photo's I thought I'd never see and I'm surprised there are so many of the band- and so  many really good ones.

Anybody got any particular favourites?

Suppose the record cover ones come to mind first through sheer exposure to them, and of those I'll always have a soft spot for Tonic for the Troops poses, though to this day I have no idea of the significance of the tiger. Also liked the sweaty In the Long Grass shots, but could have done without Bob's jogging bottoms being quite so revealing.

Rat Trap single cover and the variations on that in Jackie (my excuse is that I did a paper round) always looked good. Conversely I wasn't so hot on the Mondo Bongo b&w poses or the slicked back (****roach) hair.

You've now got me contemplating a trip to the loft to dig out the old posters....

Wow it never ends. I've just discovered loads more photos from the seventies on Getty Images. Just put in Boomtown Rats and choose "oldest first " from the options as newer Geldof ones will come up first.

These Getty Image ones are a real treasure trove and any real fan would  appreciete them- I'd say some of the images haven't been seen for years and they're rather splendid.

Now you got me wondering about the significance of the tiger- maybe its a subliminal ad to get us to eat more Frosties and maybe it's of some deep Freudian or Jungian significance.
