Relaxing the FCC ownership rules so that there's no real political discourse or inquiry any more (media concentration run amok), the dismantling of various and sundry social welfare protections, re-structuring the bankruptcy laws to protect the banks alone, doing absolutely nothing about the fact that a large portion of the population has no access to affordable health care, refusing to support stem cell research, advocating teaching "Intelligent Design" theory (aka God) in all schools as part of the science curriculum (as a valid scientific alternative to evolution), screwing up environmental protection laws to favor the energy industries, or should I say relaxing ALL government regulation on business as a general matter past the point which I think is reasonable, re-introducing nuclear power to the national agenda, lying to the country about WMD (among other things) to get popular support for a war he wanted to wage for other reasons .... I could go on.

Oh, how could I forget: fostering homophobia and a climate of fear! That's how he won re-election.

Besides, nobody in the poll is a favourite for me. I find it hard at the moment to call any politician a "favourite", even on a national basis, only some which I'd consider the "smallest evil". Some I respect, you wouldn't know the names, but "favorites" - no. Not a word I'd normally use in connection with politics/politicians.

And since you brought it up Tango - I was and still am against the Iraq war.

because we got rid of sadam husane the most evil man since hitler. yes people died but its a war. and yes tony blair lied but he had been told their were bombs and when we went in there was still a very real risk of nuclear weapons and it was the perfect opportunity for us to topple this mass murderer from power once and for all and it was a significant start to the war on terror.

What exactly was that John guy in a position to do? (And may I remind you that Bush never fought in a war, while "that John guy" was a Vietnam veteran, so on that count, he certainly did something Bush himself didn't.)

Whether the war in Iraq was the right or wrong thing to do is a wholly separate issue than lying to the country to get support for it.

At this point, I believe Bush always knew there was no plausible nuclear threat and simply lied because he knew if he told the truth, it wouldn't fly.

Yes, I'm sure Iraq was worth it for the scores of servicemen that returned from Iraq in body bags...

or the family of Ken Bigley (and others) who watched their loved ones decapitated...

or the thousands of Iraq citizens who were killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time..

or the families of the London bombing victims which some believe was retribution for invading Iraq.

(but then again, the families of Haliburton and other US companies in Iraq are getting great Christmas presents this year from the bonuses received!!)

Based on his decision to oust Saddam I would say that the President has a perfect record of deciding who is good and who is bad. I also believe that if the President was to make a list of the top 10 "unruly" leaders in todays world, a vast majority of American's and the lesser country populace's would agree with the list.

The idea of killing another man and having the result or intended result of you living a free life is gross. War should be man's last ditch effort. That's a stretch. We treat war as an everyday thing now.

Forget the lies. Forget the backwards morals. Forget that the White House giving over 20 separate rationales for the war. Forget that civilians have been attacked. All of these are important, but put those aside, and look at the basics.

It is in the name of America that the war is being fought. People are dying for me to be free, or some bullcrap they tell me. If that were even true (which it isn't), I do not support soldiers killing people in my name.

The attacks of September 11 (not 9/11, because the date would still have existed anyway) happened because of a group of fundamentalist terrorists taking refuge in Afghanistan. Iraq is only a breeding ground for terrorists now because our soldiers are there. It was not before. Saddam had no connections to Al Qaeda. Unless I see some real evidence of him shaking hands with Osama bin Laden or whomever, this is fact. Fact is the exclusion of what cannot be proven or has not been proven.

I know a few people on my side who'll enjoy this. I think it might've aired on the BBC at some point. It's a video of George Bush making his State of the Union Address...sort of.

Today's Conservatives are all Jewish. They don't follow the peaceful brotherly teachings of Jesus, but they believe in God, and really want to keep the Ten Commandments in courthouses.

Why won't spc1970 ever agree with me?

One reason is he's about as stubborn in his own views as I am in mine. For that I can respect him.

But the other is from what a friend told me. I explained the debates we've been having in the forum to her, and said one person just never seems to agree with me. She said, "Good." I asked her why. She said, "It wouldn't make sense to admit defeat when you know you're wrong."

Ponder that one for awhile.

I suggest you take the time to learn something about Jews in America, and/or the Jewish religion, by spending some time with Jews, not Lutherans. The High Holy days begin next week - go find a synagogue (you'd probably like a "reform" branch of Judaism synagogue best) and pop in for a New Year's service.

I have no idea why you're bringing Judaism into this at all, and the fact that you have done so is frightening. If your point is that you don't like Bush, or the war, may I remind you that most of the nation's Jews live in the BLUE states, and almost by definition did not vote for him.

Finally, I think Bush's, and the Republican party's "base" - what is commonly known as the "religious right" - which primarily translates to people who self-identify as "Christian", or "Evangelical Christian" - would be highly upset with you for characterizing them (Conservatives) as Jews.
