Maybe hes going to watch the Ashes and staying for a week or two to play a gig.
Bet Jagger will be going seeing as he turned up at the World Cup in South Africa. Don't think Geldof likes any sport.
In the mid nineties he turned up to watch Chelsea at Stamford Bridge cos I remember him being interviewed on Radio 5 Live. He said that seeing as he lived in the Kings Road area he might as well go. He hasn't been solicited for his views on football since!
Good thinking Geldof -December in Oz is high summer!

This is why Bob is going to OZ. It is in the Aussie press, so not a secret. I imagine this will be televised accross the whole of the US. What an opportunity! Bon Jovi, U2 and Bob all on stage. Hope they release an official DVD. This is the night before the public concert.
Sting joined him on stage in India. Wonder if Bono or Bon Jovi will join him in Sydney. Jovi and he did a version of Mondays I seem to recall. Is the Winfrey concet the same one where John Travolta is flying the audience from her final programme over to Oz in his private jumbo? Wonderful publicity for Bob's music and his new album. No, there is no way I would fly there either, even for Bob.

It is being filmed for Oprah's TV show and it is the audience from her last US show. Geldof on show coast to coast America and it may well be shown over here on satellite. Nice one Bob.! http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/46290/
Not really into bombastic rock music like U2 and Bon Jovi so not too impressed. It just seems more like the elite of society showing off again.
Geldof seems to be added as a token these days as a "mate" of Bono and Bon Jovi- its very doubtful if he will play any new songs either so it will be the all too familiar trotting out of Mondays backed by some bloke from Bon Jovi.
Wont stop my devotion to him but I prefer him to headline his own gigs because the music is more suited to smaller venues rather than these huge overblown stages with lighting rigs to distract from the songs.
Is there some political aspect to the shows that I have missed from the Telegraph report?
He is still doing his own show the following night, so I think there a chance there will be some new songs. Hopefully the publicity from the previous evening will ensure a good crowd.

Sorry Scottie it was just my cynical nature. It would be nice to get a decent sized crowd of Aussies Brits and Irish who live down under who might appreciate him.
Geldof is a big fan of the original Aussie punks The Saints so maybe some of their fans would be interested. The Saints are originally from Brisbane and are brilliant- better than Bon Jovi even! Listen to I'm Stranded for proof - that would be a great song for Bob to cover.

I havent seen Bob and the band since 2006 and Im looking forward to seeing his show again. Hearing old songs and new songs.
The Oprah TV appearance is the reason for the visit - but thats also great exposure for him as he has an album out next year! and a great excuse for him to perform a show with the band in Sydney!!

anyone going? I have front row :)
Sorry I initially thought Bob was just turning up with Bono and Bon Jovi on some sort of mega rock star junket .Throw John travolta into the mix with Oprah and I felt confused. Who wouldn't? Who could trust a scientologist to fly a plane?
Glad to see Geldof is doing his own gig in Sydney with his band. Hope you enjoy the show Danny and he probably will play some of his new songs.

Oh, and Im super excited to see him live on Thursday night!! :)
Enjoy the concert on Thursday night Danny. Wonder did the Rats make any impact in Oz when the were happening in Europe? There must have been strongholds of punk and alternative music down under in the seventies. Maybe they should have called the third album The Fine Art of Surfing to make it appeal to Aussies.
Commiserations on the Ashes!
