It must have only been a few seconds but it was very strange. I was standing around chatting with other fans in the bar, before the gig. Simon and Garry appeared and after a short time came over to me. Simon said he'd not seen me before, who was I? I was explaining that I had been a fan for 33 years etc. Then Bob appeared, nothing to do with the gig but to collect something - he'd been there the evening before.
There was clear hostility between Bob and Simon but they were trying not to show it openly. Bob spotted me and recognised me and seemed put out that I was there!!!! Then he left and that was the end of the dream. No music...

Gerry Cott lives nearby, but will probably be getting a good night's sleep for his recital the next day.
As for Geldof, he turned up when they supported the Blockheads in London, and had Garry play with him on the record and in Dublin. Not sure there is that much hostility. It wouldn't surprise me if one day there were more than three Rats on the stage at once, though I think a full reunion may be pushing it.
I have occasional dreams featuring either the Boomtown Rats or Geldof on his own.
I always find it they are performing a song in the dream the song usually is enhanced, sounding really brilliant and utterly convincing-better than it could ever sound in real life.
I had a dream lately that the Rats played at my old school - but the were impostors - not the real Rats- in a reunion type gig. The gig was in an old classroom and it was crammed with people in their forties and older. The crowd seemed to enjoy the gig and the music was really good but it wasn't the "real" Boomtown Rats and I felt a bit confused.
The always say that dreams express either unconscious wishes or fears.
The defence mechanism bit made lots of sense, other areas are just too bizarre. Later psychoanalysts talked about motivation and roots of behaviour being down to aggression/anger rather than sexual!
