then yesterday whilst doing our charity stall for the Dr Hadwen Trust I avoided reading an anti-vivisection booklet cos I was told how horrible the pictures etc.were. A fewweeks ago I read an anti-fur leaflet and felt ill for a good 48 hours when I read about how they treat the animals in order to get their fur.

So I want to thank Bob Geldof for helping to inspire me to get off my arse and do something about it, hence the stall and plenty more to come no doubt..........cos theres not really anyone elses music that I listen to who I am aware of that has had such a big impact on a cause.

I like listening to inspirational people.....any other musicians/singer/songwriters you know that are not afraid to come out and give passionate speeches about helping a cause?

Please let me know if you do know of some..........thanks X.

(personally if I was a well known musician/singer/songwriter I don't think I could sleep at night unless I did SOMETHING pretty major for a cause of some sort - how shallow all these artists seem!)

thats why i dont get into much music cos their songs are so shallow!

rant over.....

If you want more details of celebrities who support various charities theres a very detailed website called Celebrity Charitiy News. Just go to that site and then click on the yellow bar on top that says "causes" and there is loads of information about different causes and the famous people who support them.

It seems reasonably comprehensive and has info on causes by category eg homelessness, addiction , hunger etc.

Hope this is of some help.

Good luck with the Dr Hawden Trust.

Just had a brief look Noel, thanks for posting about this website (Celebrity Charity News)

As I kind of expected it all looks pretty naff and pathetic.

I know I can't talk having really only just started to get it together to do something.

Still, even if I do include myself as being naf and pathetic I still think celebrities' efforts are pretty pants.

How come the people with the most attention are so pants (like me)?

No wonder so many of them have turned to drugs and alchohol (not saying i never have) when they completely lack meaning in life.

Its pretty chicken i reckon (not saying i am not) to not be brave enough to make BOLD statements about humanrights/animal rights/ environment/fairness/justice etc. etc.

However i have seen the light and pledge to try to make this world a better place.

Prolly though most of us are pretty chicken ****.

I  was trying to find a general list of rock stars and the causes the support but it isn't that easy- perhaps someone could set up such a site on Wikipedia just as a starting point and at least there would be basic information particularly about the less famous rock stars.

I am embarassed at being such a grumpy woman, lots of celebs actually do rather a lot for charity don't they?

rather than see it all as rubbish i should find comfort and reassurance in the goodwill of humankind by realising that just cos i dont see it, dont mean it dont go on.........

accept my apologies celebs.........sometimes we take our wrath out on the people we love the most, haha, god i talk bollocks sometimes :-S

Probably lots of celebrities either donate money or work in some way for charities that are not very "cool" or trending (as they allegedly say on Facebook).

There are loads of millionaires all over the world that people have never heard of, because the choose to keep a low profile, that support causes but prefer to work behind the scenes and their work goes unacknowledged by the public.

yeh course there are - i suppose i get fed up with so little inspiration i get from watching tv, well actually tbh i rarely watch it but that is because its so uninspiring......

I watch these peeps on tv and think what witty amazingingly articulate, intelligent and i am sure very nice people they are....... but get pissed off that they don't really say anything very significant..... i feel in some ways these people are going to waste..... but as you have already pointed out Noel, i dont see behind the scenes, admittedly.

Its not that i think any worse of them as individuals but i do find tv very shallow and it and the rest of the media incredibly shallow too, yeh i could go and read a book instead but i'm not much of a book reader these days..... i prefer people to books..... plus i even wonder about the writers - (i'm hard to please)

i wonder about the pressures of people to conform to the 'status quo', eg. musn't say anything too political on the BBC or erm....anyway.... i remember once having come back from texas where i watched a tonne of Oprah Winfrey shows on which real issues were discussed like child abuse etc. things that are still very much taboo in this country....anyway when i cam back i watched a terry wogan show in which he interviews one of the Jackson sisiters - she started to mention the, dare i say it, child abuse issue, and terry wogan could not shut her up quick enough, shock horror not on the BBC before watershed time please!!

anyway.......it pissed me off.......

Jeremy Kyle is good at tackling social issues. Also Victoria Derbyshire on BBC radio 5  live - she deals with tough issues as well, and is pretty balanced.
