Maybe this is autobio, part 2, the shortened version. Bit quicker than writing another book. I know there are verses along the lines of "you were my brother and you took her away" or something like that.

In Young And Sober Geldof writes about Band Aid/Live Aid-" We sent some bread and water/Tried our best to stop the slaughter".

About the break up with Paula Yates he writes -" She left me for another/Whom I'd once have thought my brother".

The problem is how can anyone reduce complex situations down to one or two simple lines. Famine strictly speaking is not slaughter- surely slaughter is an act of violence rather than a largely natural disaster.

Anyway I expect there to be at least three or four tracks I will not like- its the attrition rate for most music nowadays. Hopefully the good songs will be really good.

Interestingly its the old what I call "bad song at the end of the album" situation when according to the laws of music you start the album with three good tracks and generally end of some good ones too. First and final impressions matter.

Well, in my humble opinion, the last one on the album proper Here's To You, is absolutely beautiful and I think would make a good single.

I believe there is a short clip on youtube from Dubia(this year) where Bob is singing Younge and Sober.I never knew what the song was until I read the text above.

I can't for certain say if I like Young And Sober because I haven't heard it- maybe the Oirish jiggy bit is nice and maybe the other verses are better than the one mentioned. I'm only quoting from Terry Stauntons review. Maybe I'll like it - I remain open minded.

Wonder how he tells the story of the Boomtown Rats- in two lines or maybe he gives them four?.

Currently listening to Gorillaz Plastic Beach and it'll take at least five or six spins to decide if I like it. The Damon Albarn songs sound pretty ok a bit like Blur. Point being that it normally takes some time to judge music and it'll be the same with Bobs album.

hello Derek - unfortunately I'v only played it through about twice. I do not like rap music and a lot of the tracks are to me just the sort of rap I try to avoid hearing every day.

The songs that I like are the ones sung by Damon Albarn- the Albarn songs sound a bit self pitying and mournful rather than being more upbeat but they're not bad.I generally used to like Blur in the Britpop days.

One of the tracks features Mark E Smith from The Fall, he does his usual vocal inflection thing but he only has a few lines, most of the track is instrumental.

Also one of the songs is sung by Griff from Super Furry Animals along with De La Soul in vocals on the same track.

For me its too rap orientated- interesting music and then some rapper guy comes along and starts yapping over it! You think why did he have to come in and ruin a perfectly good instrumental vibe.

I got the first Gorillaz album and though it was a lot better. Don't let me put you off but I'd recommend Captain Beefhearts Trout Mask Replica in you haven't heard that. You can always just watch the Gorillaz videos on Youtube and decide if you want to buy it- it costs nothing to do it that way. Better than getting stung if the album turns out to be not to your liking.

If you just Google "Geldof Dubai" some songs from that gig will come up.

Maybe the song is at the end of one of the other songs like Indifference/ Scream/ Mondays/ Banana Republic / 10.15/ it doesn't feature on its own and I think its only a quick snapshot. Bob likes to tease.

Maybe Derek will have more specific information or else you may have to sequentially go through all the footage. Which requires dedication bordering on......
