I read somewhere that Bob likes to buy his suits from charity shops and doesn't care about his appearance.
Do you think this is true? Surely he must care just a teeny weeny bit, otherwise he would NEVER have his hair cut and he obviously does have it cut otherwise it would be much longer........ so he must care......just a bit....;0)
Mind you he's not the sort to wear a different outfit for every occasion is he? I mean I'm sure I've seen him wear that dark blue pin striped suit quite a few times....... or were all the photos taken on the same day i wonder?
I wonder who the suit belonged to before and whether they've noticed that Bob Geldof is now wearing it......
Bob hates charity shops. Not sure where you read that but listen to Bob, don't believe what you read. I seem to recall someone asked him why he hates them on the q & a session in the Indy. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/bob-geldof-a-you-ask-the-questions-special-407323.html and http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/story/geldof-hits-out-at-charity-shops I think that's what the person was asking for. I disagree with him, I love them personally and think that whoever it was at Oxfam who thought of it was a genius. What a fantastic way of recycling and raise lots of money. It's a fun way to shop too.
Now his late ex-wife used to like them, apparently and she used to come to Oxford, so I'm told, to do her charity shop shopping. Around '92/'93 my old flat mate came home and said he just spotted her outside Boots with a pram. I was all ready to rush into town, but Bob wasn't with her, rather disappointingly.
I've touched that navy pin striped suit it is lovely material, feels very expensive

lol I think he hangs on to them for a long time, but guess he looks after them well. The navy pin striped looked and felt fantastic close up. I imagine it would be hard for him to get something off the shelf being so tall. I know have the opposite problem
ah so he HATES charity shops, i see. i think i read that he loved them on the HELLO website, but cant be sure.
ah so i wonder what he does with his old suits he doesnt want anymore..... i wonder if he sends them to charity shops..... and which ones (lol will scour the charity shops where he lives for items of clothing from him) - maybe he sends them to africa...
i thought it a bit surprising that he shopped at charity shops lol. just shows you what a load of crap people will write to make a story doesn't it?!! i dont normally read up on celebs. Bob is the exception to the rule - but now i know why - cos its all bollocks anyway.
how can we know if something is true or not??
i used to buy a tonne of stuff from charity shops, but never wore the stuff i bought, only thing from charity shop i wear now is a coat from jigsaw. Instead i just cluttered up my home with tat i didnt need, just cos they were cheap........
however charity shops can be good for items that you don't find in shops. i mean for example...... an ordinary black knee length skirt you would think would be an essential item for any girl's wardrobe, i hunted high and low for one, could i find one? NO. but plenty in the ol charity shops.......however i did in fact find one after years of searching in M&S the other day....
also i got teh coolest black leather jacket from a charity shop years ago, a good leather jacket is better with age i think, but got drunk one night and left it in a cab :(
i suppose i'm a bit disappointed that Bob does not wear old 2nd hand clothes......... cos i like old stuff........ some old clothes are better than new.....like some people....... ;0)
Haha, yes wonder what he does with his old clothes. Perhaps he never parts with them? they seem to go on and on forever.
Hello, not sure I've even looked at it. Like you, I hate celeb stuff, only look at some things when they appear on my google search for Bob. But you can only be sure when you hear Bob say it, but then again would he lie to us? Well sometimes he does.
I was a volunteer in a charity shop for 17 years so of course I'm biased towards them. Don't do all my shopping in them, but love doing a run of them. There are around 6 near where I work. Great for a rainy day, when I don't want to walk around the park. Yes, I agree with you, you can find some great stuff in them. Things you would expect to be a basic item and other vintage interesting stuff which is unusual. Used to love when students would come in saying they were going to a fancy dress that evening e.g. 70s, bad taste etc. Loved rummaging through everything finding them bits for their party. Everyone called me out to help when anyone came in for fancy dress parties.
I think Joan is correct is thinking that Bob loves charity shops. I cant remember where, but have read a few times that he is a bargain hunter who will not or rarely pay above the odds for clothes in particular. One article said that he loved buying job lots of second hand suits from charity shops.
A few years ago he did a fashion spread in the Sunday Times magazine posing in posh new threads. I like his sense of fashion and think he looks remarkably cool in almost anything. Love the photo of him in his white suit on the cover of his Under The Influence cd.
Final thought - I prefer shopping in charity shops occasionally to being "chugged" on the high street. You cannot walk for two minuites in Dublin without someone trying to make you subscribe to their pet charity. And make you feel guilty.
Nice to willingly give a few euros or pounds and get something like a few cd's or books in return- without being held at metaphorical gunpoint.
Yeh especially when the street fundraisers ask you really awkward questions.......and one has to try and wriggle out of backing up one's excuse for not stopping to chat with them....
the problem is with this type of fundraising is that its all about signing on the dotted line and parting with cash....... its a SELL....and i spose good luck to them cos it cant be an easy job...
thats why i prefer to do charity work as an unpaid volunteer cos theres much more motivation to inform people about the charity and create an interest from peeps in a charity thereby raising its profile because your wages dont depend on it. So basically its worth your while handing out leaflets to people that are trying to avoid you by averting their eyes to the pavement or giving you an enormously wide berth cos you hope that at some point they will bother to read the leaflet and well maybe even fill in the regular donation form.
You feel a bit like public enemy no.1 standing on the street handing out leaflets but the way i look at it is well it really could be worthwile pissing off a few people for a single second to - in this case - save a few furry creatures from a life of misery and discomfort, ok i'm gonna boohoo again but as i always tell myself on these occassions - quit crying and get off ya arse and do something about it!! ;0)
ON the subject of Bob being into 'old' I happen to be a bit of a psychic and i say 'a bit' of one cos i am more of a medium than a psychic...........so anyway..... i would hazzard a sort of psychic guess and say that Bob IS into old, dunno about charity shops, but perhaps old buildings n stuff like that.

Best way to deal with chuggers is to pretend to be a bit mad or eccentric. Tell em you're just out of the asylum for a day trip to the city.
Strangely sometimes if the chuggers don't ask then I might feel "whats wrong with me?" Do I look like I've not got any money!
Tell em if they ask have you got a minute "Yes I've got all day- but I need to find a Boots to buy some deodorant before we can talk" .Or something like that.
HAHA Scottie, hmmm i wouldnt be lying if i said i was a mad as a hatter so at least i would be telling the truth....... in fact i did have this sort of conversation with some bloke who was collecting for schizophrenic people lol.
as far as smelling is concerned i often stink as well due to smoking way too much,
.... but they still ask me to stop, so i say i already donate to enough charities...... to which one sharp thinking chugger asked me which charities i donated to..... well at the time i had been in fairly dire financial straits and couldnt come up with an answer cos i'd cancelled all my regular charity donations....... anyway i couldnt think of an answer so just tutted and walked on......lol

I read that he collects antique carpets and rugs as a "hobby". I'd imagine he has good taste in such matters.
yeh me too, i love old as well maybe thats why i love bob.
LOL not cos he is old but cos he likes old things.
old stuff has a history, if you tune into it has an appeal from a sort of mystic perspective...... everyone can.... just some are more inclined to than others. adds to the charm of an item, its life.
I would say that the chuggers have some stories to tell of the people the meet on the streets. The probably all end up in the pub drowning their sorrows after another hard day meeting loonies on the streets!
Love their battlefield tactics of two on each side of the street. To be fair its not the easiest way to make a living, and most of them are doing it for the money and their slice of the cake.
Maybe another dodging tactic is to carry a small vodka bottle filled with water, in your handbag or manbag and ask the chugger if the would like a swig from it. Tell them its your breakfast.
