Jules - followed your instructions and hey presto there it was - the new single from the big man as POC said. Its a little bit after 40.15!

Sounds pretty good but not earth shattering- jaunty, summery or springy, positive lyrics. Pleasant enough, sort of what I'd expect.

Doubt if its the best song on the album but its outgoing for a change, the introspection has been left behind.

If I'm listening to the beep its normally BBC 5 live or else Radio 4 so not sure if it will get continued play. Robert Elms on Radio London used to play some Geldof stuff in the nineties esp Great Song Of Indifference amidst all the Britpop.

It should get some play here in Ireland as well. I tend to only listen to music on cd as I can control what I'm listening to.

Thanks for the first intro sample Nick.

His voice sounds in good order- Mary Says from the thirty second sample possibly impressed me most. His voice is really distorted on Blowfish making the words impossible to hear and he didn't sound at all like Bob Geldof.

Systematic Six Pack again really seems to distort his voice. Of course the samples are not going to inform too much- the just give a snapshot of the album .

Again I need to see the lyrics to fully understand what the songs are about but on this quick glance it sounds more than ok! As is my want I will be looking out for songs that remind me of The Boomtown Rats.

I have just noticed the promo copy of SPT is about 3 and a half minutes long but the album version is 4 minutes long.Extra verse on the album maybe?.

They played this on the Will Leahy Show on RTE 2FM today and it got lots of interesting feedback all positive with one listener describing Bob as a sober Shane McGowan when he sings. Will Leahy himself said it was quite good. Listen back to the show here http://2fm.rte.ie/show/101 Click listen back and then use the arrows to find the show for the 26th. I'M more a Pat Kenny man myself finding it hard to listen to music before 1 PM as a general rule!

Anyway good to see its getting some airplay botlh in Ireland and Britain at the moment. The happy cheerful instrumental bit sounds like something which I can't pin down exactly hence it takes a bit from the song by being a bit derivative.

Will Leahy said it was probably the first solo Geldof track played on 2FM in twenty five years. Doubt that very much- surely the Great Song Of Indifference , My Hippy Anglel, One For Me got some airplay but unfortunately the Irish public seem quite ignorant about Bobs solo career.

There are loads of really good Geldof songs that have not been heard on Irish radio like A Rose At Night, In The Pouring Rain, Scream In Vain, Crucified Me, Voyager 2.

Perhaps if some of these songs were played occasionally then the perception of Bob as a songwriter would not seem so incongruous.

2FM is piped throughout the factory where I work so there isn't a choice to listen. I do like Will's show though and Dave Fanning though tonight he was in his "lets play weird stuff" humour biggrin

I rarely listen to any radio at home much preferring my CD collection or to listen online to recommendations.
I find the instrumental bit strange and it reminds me of a 80's TV tune but not sure which one confuse

I was amused at Will's comments about it being the 1st Geldof solo song ever played on 2fm as I am convinced I have heard TGSOI before and I totally agree there are loads of his solo stuff that haven't being played on air and you maje a good point and maybe these songs should be played. I know Dave Fanning has played some on occasion. 2FM is just too commercial and the rest of the stations here are afraid to be different.

Given this is from the man who brought us Mary of the Fourth Form and Banana Republic (among others), this is so bland that Phil Collins would reject it for not being edgy enough. Even makes Crazy sound hard core.

I don't expect introspection, but this sounds so wet, they must have being wringing their clothes out leaving the studio.

You'd think that after 9 years of not doing any music, you'd want to make some sort of statement. Hell, it's not like anyone's going to buy it anyway!

I'm enjoying it. Don't think I'd want to even think about comparisons to the Rats. They were just THE greatest! biggrin

By the way it has got into the Irish iTunes charts in the top 30. Not sure how many that means it has sold though. It might have sold 3 copies and those below it 2 and 1 lol wink

It's getting more airplay than the other Geldof solo singles thanks to his friends on the radio.
