Can anybody provide more information of Gus Dudgeon's recordings with  The Boomtown Rats. I've heard the reggae/rock version of Mondays and also Late Last Night and Joey.Did they record more tracks and in what timeline roughly?

Any  further information much appreciated. The version of Late Last Night, in particular, in brilliant. There seems to be no immediate information on these sessions when I search  the net so if anybody can help I would be grateful.

These recordings came up when someone logged onto the forum on the Rats site and kindly supplied the MP3s.  I can't divulge the  source nor any other details, apart from that another track was supposed to have been recorded.  They were recorded in early 1979 before the Wainman recording of Mondays , but I don't have exact dates.

You won't find anything else on the internet, it's just pure luck they are here.

Can't or won't?  'Nuff said ;)

What puzzles me is why (presumably limited) resource was spent making one of the three (four?) tracks yet another version of Joey.

[Similarly, I've always wondered why the stakeholders thought that a reworked version Up All Night (albeit IMHO a superior one) was what V Deep really needed. Personally, I'd have promoted Europe Looked Ugly to album track instead. And I'd have dropped House Burned Down in favour of that third verse of Talking In Code, too.]

The re-recording of Joey was probably done as a follow up single to Rat Trap.

I don't really know which the right version of Up All Night is and they all sound much the same smile.gif

Unless I get the tracks off Geldof himself (unlikely), most sources are anonymous.  Bobi G should not have posted that link  in a public forum, but ho-hum what can I do about that...

What was wrong with the version of Joey to want to rerecord it? Do you still  have the Dudgeon sessions mp3. I would love to hear the version of Late Last Night again as I have no idea what I did with that mp3?

Fantastic. Drop me a pm anytime. Was never keen on the Dudgeon version of Mondays but the Dudgeon version of Late Last Night seemed remarkable when I heard it back then.smile

Check your email.  Was a bit of a struggle as I have a new laptop and needed to map the NAS to it.
