Might just have to dig out the vinyl and try the singles at 33 and albums at 45 to see if any other tracks (or parts of) survive the treatment. Would play Charmed Lives at 78 if I had the right turntable
yes that version sounds pretty ok. Something I normally never do is listen to cover versions of rats songs especially the millions of people who do versions of Mondays.
However perhaps by luck I came across a fairly interesting, in my opionion version of Like Clockwork by a band/group called Hosiery and I think it's worth a listen- they certainly haven't mangled it or made me want to switch off. I'll even forgive them messing with the TOTP video. Good que for links to other Rats covers if anyone has spotted one they think is worth listening to.

Bears out Geldof's theory that a good song survives any cover. Certainly different, and an interesting 'rewrite'.
Confess I've never sought out Rats' covers. Are there loads for Mondays then? Can't believe this hasn't been covered on a previous thread. Anyone care to enlighten or provide link if there's a pool of covers to explore. Would prefer published versions to e.g. the 5 year old girl playing IDLM at home, but anything would be worth at least one listen.
Totally disagree that a good song "survives " any cover. Most cover versions in my opinion just suck the life and greatness out of the original. Look what Blink 182 did to the Only Ones Another Girl Another Planet- musical vampires!
I was referring more to the dozens of amateurs who sit in front of cameras at home and post versions of Rats songs rather than versions by "proper" artists. The most well known version is, I think, Tory Amis version of Mondays which is fairly good.
I found an interesting version of Diamond Smiles, which has intrugued me for a while. Its by a group of Asian kids fronted by a lets say "weird or spooky " frontman or frontkid! Obviously copied from the Rats version in Toyko as the start off with Go Man Go and then start into Diamond Smiles proper. The rest of the band seem cool but the kid just freaks me out a bit. Still it's interesting that the bothered. Think the town they are based in is in Germany.
