Ten? Very hard to decide... A selection:

Kurt Tucholsky – Castle Gripsholm

Margaret Atwood – The Handmaids Tale

Roddy Doyle – The Barrytown Trilogy

Paul Auster – Moon Palace

Nick Hornby – High fidelity

Erich Kδstner – can’t decide between The Double Lottie and Emil and the detective

John Irving – The world according to Garp

Keri Hulme – The bone people

Donna Tart – The secret story

Barbara Trapido – Brother of the more famous Jack

And, ok, Bob Geldof – Is that it?

1 - Catcher in the Rye - JD Sallinger
2 - In Dubious Battle - John Steinbeck
3 - Savage Night - Jim Thompson
4 - Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven - Sherman Alexie
5 - Our Dumb Century - the Staff of the Onion
6 - Red Harvest - Dashiell Hammett
7 - Ulysses - James Joyce
8 - The Sound and the Fury - Wm. Faulkner
9 - Lost Horizon - James Hilton
10 - Is that It? - Bob Geldof

Think I misspelled a few of those!  Sorry - long night!  Only 10!  Too tough!  No room for Lord of the Flies!  And I only got Thompson and Hammett on the list!  No room for Cain, Chandler, Willeford, Ellroy, Woolrich, not to mention other genre faves, like Beaumont, Matheson, Lansdale, etc... whew... all those years working at the bookstore paid off, eh?

It is a lovely book. I'd have been quite happy to have studied it in English. I remember doing To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and loved it, thankfully. The only books I didn't like which I studied at school were Shakespeare!

I nearly put TKAMB on my list but since I only read it the once and it was around 25 years ago I left it off.
