Nirvana, The Pixies & The Rats?

I spent a lot of last night watching the various Kurt Cobain/Nirvana/Nevermind shows on BBC4 and it was mentioned that Smells Like Teen Spirit was close to a Pixies song with it's quietLOUDquiet approach.  Then they had a Pixies song to illustrate the point, which near enough copied the structure of Someone's Looking at You.   Smells Like Teen Spirit was compared to More Than A Feeling.

Now considering Courtney Love was a Rats fan, maybe Nevermind would never have happened but for the Rats smile

As a related aside,  the Lord Mayor of Dublin appears to be a fan of Nirvana, The Pixies & The Rats...

ANDREW MONTAGUE, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, was a special guest on the citys Phantom 105.2 radio station yesterday morning.

The Labour Party man visited the fledgling station to showcase his finest worksongs songs, apparently, which he likes to listen to while hes at work.

His favourite tracks included songs from the Manic Street Preachers, Nirvana and the Pixies.

Phantoms head of music, John Caddell, sent out an intriguing press release about the event.

Ill be talking to the Lord Mayor about how a Fender Telecaster through a Marshall stack can benefit Irelands current economic situation.

We understand that the troika, currently holed up in Merrion Street and trawling the national bottom line, was all ears. Heres what Andrew is torturing permanent staff in the Mansion House with at the moment: Someones Looking at You  the Boomtown Rats; Sympathy for the Devil  the Rolling Stones; Where is my Mind?  the Pixies; Motorcycle Emptiness  Manic Street Preachers; Lithium  Nirvana; and Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes  Paul Simon.

Andrew Montague seems to have good taste in music, including the Rats. Most politicians I would hazard have fairly tame tastes in music, but not all.

Wonder has he heard XTC's Mayor of Simpleton? The Lord Mayor's Ball might be a bit more exciting, musically!
