hey i was in vicar street last night, it was brilliant once again, he's very funny guy! told his stories again of the songs, and played ones he siad he hadnt heard in years so was brilliant, sang the rats songs also and ended with i think its called "the song of indifference" ,the one that goes "i dont mind at all" had everyone up dancing, was great!! also i met his sister cleo on way with thier dad, they were having "do" which i really wanted to go into cos to see Bob himself but needed wristband so... but then i waited around downstairs to hopefully spot then i cop on people are queuing inside to meet him! so i queue too and he came out, basically i got his autpgraph, shook his hand, and told him he's great! cos he is, he very down to earth!!

The concert was unbelievable. I think Bob was on stage for nearly two and a half hours. Didn't get to wait around afterwards though as by the time the gig was over (ten to twelve) we had only ten minutes to get our car before the carpark shut. Did get a Rats t-shirt for my very disappointed 12 year old who couldn't go due to the age restriction though.

The gig opened and closed with "The Great Song of Indifference" as is usual but amounted to a larger dose of Bob's solo stuff including some unreleased songs ("Harvest Moon" was one title I recollect) than I'd seen before.

The set of songs from "sex, age and death" was just wonderful. "Birthday suit" would have brought tears from a stone. From the performance last night it was easy to see why the album had got such critical aclaim.

The solo stuff gave way to the Rats stuff eventually which brought the house down. Bob and the lads did a 5 song encore. The flu seemed to have abaited though Bob did mention it at the start of the concert! I guess Bob was at home, in front of friends and family and just would have sung all night.

First time in Vicar Street for me. Great acoustics and atmosphere. The gig was a near sell out. I think I saw about four empty seats just. There were some clearly mega Bob/Rats fans in the audience.

Before our two hour drive home in a pea soup of a fog, got a thrill when we went to pay for the car park. There, ahead of us in the queue was a familliar looking character. As he left the pay station I said to my husband "That guy looks just like the lead singer of The Thrills." "That's because he is," replied my better half, well used to my dubious powers of observation. Alas, another autograph/photo opportunity that got away!

What age is Bob Senior anyway? He must be well in his eighties..........That guy needs nominated for one of those Father of the Year awards for sure. Far and beyond the call of parenthood supporting your son in his rock and roll career at such an age. Wonder what he makes of all the f''''ing and blinding? (Well used to it I guess by now)

Finolaaa and kidneybean, thank you for your reviews! Sounds like a wonderful night, I'm glad Dublin went well and Bob's flu at least hasn't become worse! I'm sure playing "at home" is different than playing elsewhere.

Do you remember any more of the solo songs that he played? Pouring rain? I cry too?

I think Bob's dad is around 90 or 91.

There was one song played in the encore which I hadn't heard before. It was definitely a sex, age and deathly one but we weren't told the title. Very poignant lyrics relating basically to Paula having fallen in love with someone else. Is that "I cry too"?

I can see I'm going to have to put that anthology on the Christmas list.........

Hi Welcome Kyr

I shall look forward to seeing your review of Dublin. Don't worry too much about getting an exact play list. The only reason I managed to do it for my Cardiff review was because I was passed one from the stage. I'd never remember them all. Just put down what you can remember. I usually go through the CDs to give myself prompts. My memory is hopeless!

yeah, but you wouldn't have noticed it from his voice... he was amazing.

although - his first comments coming out on stage were 'I have the flu, just to warn you - this isn't a bid for sympathy straight off, now, it's just so you know. every artist wants to leave the audience with something when they leave - in my case, it'll be the flu.' :)

the setlist thing is just for myself, really - one of the ways I keep my writing instincts working is to review the gigs I go to and I like to be exact so I can go back to it and remember just how it was. this, as well, being the first time I've seen Bob, I want to get it all right.

sadly I didn't get passed a setlist! can't complain though, I was in the front row in my favourite venue, seeing the man himself - it doesn't get much better.

No it doesn't get better than that. I understand what you mean about having a good record, but it's hard without a full list. Maybe something can be cobbled together a few people who were there can remember? I was very lucky, it was thanks to Kaz who asked for the list for me that I had it!

I wanted to ask, but I'd seen someone else get one and figured they'd be gone. I'm just wishing I'd asked the woman who had one could I write it down. but it's okay! I'm working on it. and yeah, if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate them. I've checked happyfanclub.it but there's been nothing said yet, as far as I can see.

I still don't quite believe I've finally gotten to see and talk to Bob. I feel this may take a while to sink in.

it was really strange, in that I'd never quite accounted for security guards and a queue of people when I thought about getting to speak to him - was made very nervous by all the people around and ending up speaking in this small a voice so as not to be overheard. but what can I say... he was amazing, made every last person there leave with the biggest smiles on their faces. it's a strange thing to meet someone who's had such a profound influence over you - in fact, I don't think I ever have before - but it's wonderful that he lived up to everything I'd hoped.

and, y'know, I got a hug. so I'm happy

after the weekend I'll have my photos uploaded (no way to get them off the camera, here) and I'll post a link :)

OMG you all that went to the concert are so right the 2 and a half almost concert was FANTASTIC !!!! I flew over from Ontario Canada to see him as he doesn't play here but I am from Donegal Ireland, and went to the concert with my mate Duncan,after the concert I GOT TO MEET BOB,he looked knackered but carried on when it was our turn to meet him I thought I would have passed out but I didn't, I walked up to him said hi and said my name he just looked at me and said where are you from your irish is broken, when I told him I flew over from Ontario Canada he walked over and gave me one of those european style kiss on both cheeks and went bloody hell are you mad lol I said no you don't come to Canada so I came here lol then he chatted with Duncan then I hear during the show I put an engagement ring on her finger, he was so happy for the two of us and asked who is moving and laughed thanked me for being mad enough to fly over he was very gracious and kind and soft spoken I had a blast....something I wont forget for a long time
