Apparently a higher authority has objected.  Ian & Franna were on the chat last night and some national newspaper reporter has cobbled together a story that Geldof's fans are turning against him, though no one has seen it.


And this forum is supposedly under threat again.....


Ah well, see you all at the Franz Ferdinand/Pulp forums....

It wasn't just Ian and I.  The chat was pretty full last night.  Just because you never show up ArrGee, doesn't mean no one else does.


None of the fans had seen the article.  I do not know whether Ian, Tina, BG, or other likely "higher authorities" have.

I didn't mean to imply it was just Ian and yourself.  As for never showing up.  I have tried the chat thing once or twice, but it seems to insist I download something onto my PC (which I refuse to do).  I tried it just now and got this java thing that took down my browser!


I haven't seen the article either, but I doubt the Daily/Sunday Telegraph would be too worried about some fans moaning that a concert was cancelled.  Only thing in Sunday's papers was the Bobby Geldog item....

I don't get it on my Mac version of Explorer. Far superior.

Surely you could just give yourself a severe warning instead of banning yourself

What I stated yesterday on the chatroom, was that in the new year there will be changes to the forum. It's not under threat, it needs to change its format to be a little more like the BoomtownRats.co.uk forum.  Which is to say, that we can look at who is posting etc.,

If any of you have any ideas on this please feel free to let us know.

Hasn't the BoomtownRats.co.uk forum gone into disuse?   Why do you want to know who is posting?  How can you ever know who is truly posting? 


It's easy enough to get a list of all the emails and ip addresses of those who are currently posting.  The majority of the posts on the cancelled concert threads that were deleted were from members of this Golden Circle. 


This is quite a small forum, and restricting posters doesn't seem like a good idea.  There are only thirty or so who are truly active.  


It would be easy enough to make the whole thing private, but it would have the effect of closing the membership.  If people provide an email address to get access, who would want to register them one by one?  And would people register? 


I suspect it will just die like the BoomtownRats.co.uk forum.  If that forum was still active, I'd post there in preference to here given my limited interest in Geldof's solo and humanitarian work.


A Franz forum started by a friend just last week already has approx 10,000+ posts and 600+ users, though sadly 500 of them make mouse and tango look copious in comparison .  The Pulp forum  I visit takes the opposite approach proposed, lets anyone post, and is incredibly self policing.


I would have thought it would have been in the best interest to have more people involved in the forum, and having to live with some of the criticism

Ian that is what I understood, that you were going to reformat the forum. I can't really give any advice, as I only go on 2 or 3 other forums. One is @U2 the others are medical/support/advice related. I couldn't really say how they are run. The only thing I could suggest would be to look around at other forums, and do some research? Maybe emailing one or two administrators could help?

I agree with ArrGee I can't see how you can monitor who is posting, people aren't always honest!

Ah, that may have been my doing   I was checking which threads went and what could have been wrong.  They didn't look too bad, but essentially these threads went



  • Bristol Announcement

  • Norwich and Sheffield announcement

  • Cancelled Concerts - London/Bristol/Norwich/Sheffield...(a.k.a. London cancelled)

  • Publicity? Could do better myself

  • Get Wel Soon

So why did the get well soon thread disappear? We only wanted to express our sympathy LOL. I understand the others now things have been explained a little. Ah well.

Rita try posting a whole message one word a post, you might built up a few that way It might be a difficult to read though!

ArrGee I've not posted on the Rats forum for ages. Neither has anyone else come to think of it.
