Tango..?

Are you aware that not everybody here is from Britain? You can't expect answers from anybody outside England, as we just don't know Fry and Laurie.

It's a bit as if I told you my favourite comedians were Bastian Pastewka and Diether Nuhr, just an example, you know.

ok i'll expand.stephen fry is a comedy, actor author and director.he is well spoken which makes him jumping around with a flask at the end of every show far more amusinghe is incredibly intelligent and very very funny.oh and also very very gay.he has been in blackadder and hitchikers guide to the galaxy (the new one-as the guide) aswell as a bit of fry and laurie and running his own quiz show QI.oh and Oscar Wilde in Wilde.he was in spice world aswell and won the last pipe smoker of the year award.hugh laurie is usually in these things with, like in blackadder and a bit of fry and laurie.he's the more goofy one of the duo and very musically talented.they also did jeeves and wooster together

www.hughlaurie.net

i've tried to find some more video clips but there really hard to find

this is from blackadder http://resources.bravenet.com/audio_clips/movies_tv/blackadder_-_blackadder_describes_germans/listen/

and these are jeeves and wooster http://www.hatsharpening.com/j&w/soundclips.php

and hers a pic of them at the end of 'a bit of fry and laurie' with the quote 'please mr music will you play' http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1e/ABitOfFryAndLaurie.jpeg hugh is on the left at the bottom and the other ones stephen. i love the ending cos not only does hugh play the piano, he does the best sound effects for the other instruments ever

Tony Blair & Gordon Brown ?

and of course, their sidekick, Johnny 'Two Jabs/Jags' Prescott.  Why whenever there is a disaster in the UK do they send him along?  To paraphrase Brendan Behan -  I have never seen a situation so dismal that John Prescott couldn't make it worse!

What do you love them for?

Introducing tuition fees so that if you go to university you will end up £30,000 in debt?

Sending this country into war with Iraq for no justifiable reason because Dubya wanted to get revenge for his daddy?

Increasing public expenditure to the point of making the country uncompetitive?

Spending more money on the CSA than it claws back?

Granting themselves lucrative pensions whilst insisting the rest of us work longer to pay them?

Increasing public expenditue with no effect of public services?

Getting us the Olympics which Londoners will have to pay for for the rest of their lives?

they take a while to load so you might want to open them in a new window the first time you play them, after the first playing they load quickly

Did you know?
that Fry flies his own classic biplane?
that he spent three months in Pucklechurch prison for credit card fraud?
that he is a Mac fanatic and loves going on the Internet?
that while at Cambridge he was a member of the Cherubs drinking club?
that he claims the UK record for saying "f--k" on television most times in one
live broadcast?

Hello:

I'm in the US (in rural Minnesota!) and have heard of and seen Fry and Laurie.  I haven't seen their self-titled show, but think they are both wonderful in the Wooster and Jeeves shows and of course in Blackadder (Rowan's masterpieces of comedy perfection).

They, along with Emma Thompson, were very hilarious in "The Young Ones" episode entitled "Bambi".

Tango, people in the US would know Hugh Laurie best in the Stewart Little live action movies (he plays the Dad) and in the new TV show "House" (which I haven't seen, but have heard it's really good---I don't have DISH, so I don't get the channel his new show is on).

Stephen Fry has also written some fiction.  I have read the first two books a few years ago; the first one was "The Liar".  They were very funny.  He has quite a mind.

Thank you Tango for bringing up this topic.  Tango, have you seen any Marx Brothers movies?  [They are a comedy team from the 1930s and 1940s.    Groucho's quick turn of phrase may be an influence on Stephen's work.]

take care,   debm

Hugh Laurie is well known in Hungary too, but mainly because of the TV show "House"
and of course the Stewart Little Movies.

yeah i've seen bits of marx brothers stuff.i wrote this started this thread before i was really into house so i didn't think of it but i'm addicted to it now and have seen almost every episode.its not as good as his stuff with stephen but it is still excellent.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search=hugh+laurie&search_type=search_videos

theres some clips here and there not usually spoilers.it is a fantastic programme if anyone hasn't seen it you really must.i admit that jennifer morrisons character, allison cameron, annoys the hell out of me and i would much prefer stacey warner (played by sela ward) to stick around instead, but all of these things influence house and make the show what it is.

you can find gag reels and such from stuart little on hughlaurie.net and theyr brilliant.

i'm trying to get hold of a few of fry's books and am waiting for some feedback on hugh's spy spoof 'the gun seller' before i go out and buy that.i need to save up first having just bought house series 1 dvd, jeeves and wooster 'the complete series' dvd, maybe baby, peter's friends and 'a bit of fry and laurie' dvd's aswell as piles p.g.wodehouse books.i'm also trying to get hold of footage of the young stephen fry on university challenge (a very intellectual quiz show for university's in the u.k.) during which he apparently stole the show with his amazing brain.

qi is also an excellent quiz show hosted by stephen fry which is well worth a look

Tango:  Have you seen "The Young Ones" episode Bambi?

It is set up as a University Challenge storyline, with Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and another actor as the students from the "posh" college and "the young ones" as the students representing their school Scumbag University.

I enjoy all of "The Young Ones" episodes, but that one is really quite funny.

As far as The Marx Brothers go, I would hope that you could see a whole movie sometime.  "Duck Soup" would be my first choice for anyone who is not familiar with the Marxes.  Or else "The Cocoanuts", "Monkey Business", "A Day At The Races" and/or "A Night At The Opera".

Most of their movies are really poking fun at the upper class.

Some of their later films are not as good.  They have their shining moments (in my opinion, usually due to Harpo ), but don't have the same quality of writing as the earlier ones.

take care,

debm

The Young Ones - now there's a blast from the past. Would be good to see some repeats. I thought they were brilliant when I was at school!
