Interesting stuff. Never really remember hearing Gerry speak back in the day and was certainly more used to Bob/Fingers or Bob/Simon arrangements on this score. Of all the 'duo' scenarios, this always seemed more awkward generally, but in this scenario, there is some decent banter, if not a slightly different view on the excitement or otherwise of touring. They're travelling from Oxford to London in autumn '79, I would suggest and it's for the Australian pop programme 'Countdown' on which they perform SLAY elsewhere on You Tube.

As Noel suggested, there is clearly a wealth of gems out there and it's fantastic to see them and think that there are more to come.

Thanks for alerting to this one. Bit different from the run of the mill stuff - don't think I ever heard/saw Gerry (or Garry come to that) at the time, and rarely if ever Pete and/or Simon. Was always Bob, very occasionally accompanied by Fingers who hardly got a word in smile. Worth hearing for the views on touring and fans, but I'd swear the song clips thrown in were from at least a year previous, more likely two, which seemed odd.

I'm always waiting for someone on here to say 'that was me in the background!' as these clips surface. My current theory is all those of us who have retained the devotion were possibly a year or two too young to catch (or afford!) earlier gigs, satisfied by wearing out vinyl and cassettes instead, so won't feature in these clips of band at their height, whereas those who were actually there maybe can't remember anyone except Bob now blankstare. Unless anyone wants to admit to being the guy on Hammersmith video who 'did the Rat' for the cameras???

Must be some correlation between fanaticism and exposure to idols. Fairly sure mine was fuelled by never getting to se them and having cheques returned with 'sold out' letters (only a couple of times admittedly).

Well done there Mark, you get the Howard Carter Award for uncovering solid gold lost treasure. Gerry Cott seems very wise, being a bit older than the other Rats, and as is the case with all the band, very articulate. The backstage footage shows the band pop zenith of the career, and despite all this Geldof is his usual weary self, conscious of all that is deemed 'success', and yet sort of bored and detached and outside of the whole experience as well.

The reality of touring must be pretty mundane. Most likely driving long hours, with little sleep, possibly hungover, and not really knowing where you are. Well back in the seventies it would have been- with modern technologly and connectivity it is somewhat different I'd imagine.

  The footage of Looking After No 1 was indeed from Countdown (1977).
