Primetime radio ad for Cork gig

An ad from Aiken Promotions appeared on RTE Radio 1  during the Pat Kenny Show mid morning advising that tickets go on sale for The Boomtown Rats Cork gig at 9am tomorrow!Normally only really heavyweight gigs get promo spots on radio, and the Pat Kenny show is the most listened to radio show in Ireland.

These ads are normally booked for a period of days, and over a number of different stations, so the message is getting out there and we can't blame Aiken Promotions from not trying. The ad featured snippets from Mondays, Someones Looking At You, Banana Republic and Rat Trap.

Aiken Promotions are probably the biggest gig promoter in Ireland and have brought numerous top acts to Ireland over the years. If memory serves me the promoted the Rats gigs back in '84/'85. Once there is some proper publicity with an agency with radio ads, tv spots and posters then that is all they can do, and it is up to the audience to show interest, so let's hope they do.

Hmm hope there isn't a big fight to get tickets, probably not U2 style but still.. Should have been a per-sale with a code issued by the 2 websites.

The venue in Cork holds 4,000 people. I will get my ticket tomorrow from Ticketmaster Ireland Online, but I  won't be logging on at 9 am! Still it's good to have ads on Irish radio, rather than not bothering to publicise it, and then wondering why nobody knows about it or turns up.

Aiken normally do full posters and sometimes short tv ads as well , so by July I'd say most of the tickets will be sold. The tickets are good value 35 Euro is £30.35 , 45 EU is £40 so can't say we are being ripped off, compared to so many other gigs. In Ireland concert tickets can be very expensive- sometimes it's extortion!
