Bob has confirmed he has written 2 new ones in an interview
"Geldof says he still writes songs all the time and has written two new songs for the reunion tour one called Ratify and the other simply Boomtown Rats."
I'm not convinced about it. He sounded like he was joking but in this article it is written as though it is serious. Journalists aren't always known to report things correctly, so we'll have to wait and see . Sounds awful if true and I'm hoping it isn't.
Essentially well be doing the hits [in the forthcoming shows] and the ones we remember people shouting out for back in the day. But you also rediscover ones that you have completely forgotten about and that you thought were a bit naff if you thought about them at all.
This is a more worrying quote from the same interview. They will play the naff ones...
I'm not buying a ticket until I find out what the first set list is.

So will they just play them live without anybody knowing these new songs? That tends not to work. Logically a really good single would have been released to get some kind of interest- showing what the band can still do. OK maybe it's not that easy to come with a really good song, but I'd rather hear something new than rehashing Mondays or Rat Trap, especially for pre tour tv appearances, if they get onto any of the big name shows.
I'd be very surprised if Geldof and the Rats did not write some new songs, but how many, and in what timeline is the question. I can see the point of not confusing audiences with new songs on the upcoming dates so almost all the stuff they perform will be tried and tested Rats classics. New songs take a bit of time to bed in and grow on us, but down the line a new album would be more than welcome.

Interestingly the band walked on to something where Boomtown Rats was chanted over what could be loosely called some drum and bass.
Surely if they were going to release any new material, they would have done so by now? Aside from the 'walk on' arrangement . I'd have thought they'd have wanted us to buy and listen before the IoW? Or will they spring a surprise on us? If they do, they won't have time to play much else in their limited slot.
Just listening to Bon Jovi's new single what about now? Yes Rats that's a good question.
