Simply blown away by that performance. Utterly outstanding. How anyone could say that band who were on stage last night were anything less than brilliant would be crazy.
So you'll be doing Sleep now. Have you tried the DVD yet?
No not yet, sleep nor the DVD, thanks very much for doing that. Also have to thank David from Middlesbrough for the ticket which he swapped for a T shirt and a beer and also DTR (and significant other), Wes, Suss and Mark for listening to my nonsensical ramblings deep into the night meaning I only had a couple of hours to wait for the airport lounge to open.
Lots of positives from the gig. Their first proper headlining date attracting a large, and more importantly, enthusiastic crowd, especially at the front showing The Rats can expect decent crowds from the forthcoming tour; the band sounding better with every outing, being brave enough to do a new song at the end of the set which was well received.
Only negative. Lack of sleep. But I'd do it all again for Dublin!
The set-list looks brilliant, to see Geldof doing "Looking after Number 1" would have been worth it alone :)
I must check YouTube to see if any good footage has been put up
I hold out hopes to be able to see them at one of the Dublin shows
The Rats are back!!
P.S. What are the new songs like? (not played during show, but they're on the Best-Of?)
Unfortunately most of the footage I've seen from Cork is very badly filmed, low definition and with bad to atrocious sound quality. With such a fantastic audience reaction it might had been worth a punt to film it for posterity by a professional crew.
Non of the footage does the gig justice. Yes occasionally you get good concert excerpts on YouTube ,but too often it's shaky low angle coverage with lots of backs of heads shots, and concentration of the lead singer, while missing the rest of the band.

They played The Boomtown Rats at the end. And it's, err, different. If you can imagine a cross between Scream in Vain and Systematic Six Pack you might approximate the song. Unlike anything they have ever done. I will reserve judgement on it, it sounded OK. Definitely better than Charmed Lives.

The Boomtown Rats is starting to sound like a dull football chant, repetitive and not going anywhere. Won't be able to judge until I hear it properly on cd as so far I've only heard it twice, live, whilst wearing earplugs. Subject matter too self referential in my opinion, and I doubt the critics will really be studying the lyrics-more likely to say that Geldof is self obsessed (so what's noo?)
I've no doubt there will be much 'proper', and better, new songs. File this under 'rats lab experiment'
