I think possibly because it's one of the last/the last gig of the 2013 tour run? Or possibly a bit of marketing spin (hurry whilst stocks last/limited edition model) to encourage ticket sales?
On a positive note, we've had lots of 'farewell tours' from Status Quo, Rolling Stones over the years so I'm taking it with a pinch of salt.
The local papers in Aberdeenshire are billing it as the very last ever Rats gig in the UK. Somebody must have told them that. It may or may not be true.
Don't know yet, probably just Glasgow. Probably go through by train, won't stay though. Some of the late night trains from Glasgow are eventful, to say the least. Wish they were doing Edinburgh.
It is not necessarily a farewell gig. Pete said not true and Bob said on the radio, they are gigging until Christmas and will wait and see what happens after that.
If it was a farewell gig the band would have let fans know in advance. I suspect this tour is more a springboard for the next few years, with still lots of cities to play in. And next summers festival prospects.
Geldof's heroes are Dylan and Cohen and Jagger, and they are not about to throw in the towel any time soon. Bob is still 'young' in comparison to these. Can't really see the Rats stopping after a successful Autumn tour, unless the proverbial 'musical differences' come about.
Saw Dr Feelgood at a small Norfolk festival (Reepham) at the w/e. Told Robert Kane (vocalist) that I'd seen the Rats do some of their songs! Hopefully they won't be chased for royalties Maybe they could do a few gigs together ...
Also saw a brilliant act called Shock! Hazard! who were absolutely wild - they can't have been much more than 18 or 19, quite scary really!
Anyway great to see some new stuff, and a really good festival, only marred by an hour in the police station Sun pm after some git had dented our car in car park and then driven off - but fortunately 2 sets of witnesses so someone's looking at you even if you can't stop ...
Geldof told the audience on 6 Music on Sunday about how big an influence Dr Feelgood was. He said the Rats used to play all of the Down By The Jetty album as their set, before they got to write their own masterpieces. Geldof credited Wilko Johnson at the gig in Ifield and wished him well with his illness.
Looking at the Dr Feelgood current line up it seems that they have no original members! All the 'real' band ie Brilleaux, John Sparks, The Big Figure, Gypie Mayo, Wilko Johnson were all l gone by 1993, Lee Brilleaux being the last to go in '93.
It would be a hard sell for me to go see a band with no original members, and hard enough if there is only one or two.
A while back I might have agreed - I mean Cliff Richard or Daniel O'Donnell singing Like Clockwork would just be horrendous! However, I've got to say that Dr Feelgood did a great live set - I've never seen the "real" ones so therefore didn't feel disappointed or cheated, and quite honestly have loved the Rats' versions live. Whenever, I hear a whole Dr Feelgood CD on the other hand, I don't really get into it. So I have to say for me it's the live versions - by whoever - that do it for me. Though not perhaps if Cliff or Danny-boy performed them
I guess over the years I've heard more tribute bands - mainly due to child rearing restrictions or not having £25/£30 a time to see the real ones. And I have to say in 98% of cases have been impressed and just enjoyed a bloody good night out. It's certainly more difficult just to see a band with all original members as the years go by .. And after all it's a good way to hear a wider range of music, rather than just seeing the same band playing 100 times
I would rather pay a little bit more to see a small festival with a few names from years gone by even if not in original state, but also one where you get the chance to see new faces. I have to say that some of the new faces I saw were absolutely brilliant, but will probably never hit the "big time" but maybe for all the right reasons, ie. they're really good musicians and in it to enjoy being so, rather than just to get famous and reap all the supposed benefits. There was an extremely talented 19 year old - Luke Jackson who was an excellent musician, also a great singer-songwriter (Marina Florance) who would never rise to "fame" in the same way as Cheryl Cole - and I think revelled in the fact that she was a successful performer for all the right reasons, ie an incredible singer with a great songwriting talent.
Back to Dr Feelgood - it was actually noted that Darren's guitar playing on a few of their numbers was far superior ... but anyway really good entertainment and the "new" vocalist Robert Kane was superb and had bags of energy and charisma.

I don't doubt the current version of Dr Feelgood put on a good show, but with no original members it's just a second hand experience. Not for me.
There is lots of Dr Feelgood on YouTube from the seventies, live in concert.

Highly unlikely as the songs the Rats did were written by Wilko Johnson or Leiber & Stoller. Robert Kane arguably just does some of the Rats songs Boom Boom is another song covered by Feelgood

Did see Wilko Johnson twice earlier in the year, and he was superb. It's an odd one with Dr. Feelgood because it is more like following a football club. Lee Brilleaux died, so last to go is a bit of an understatement!

A band with no original members at all is surely really a tribute band
Not really. Dr. Feelgood were more like a football team in that when one member left another was brought in. Had Lee Brilleaux not died, doubtless he would still be there, but of the members that remain, two have been there since 1983 and all bar the new singer were in the band when Lee Brilleaux died. In effect, there were three bands but a proper lineage between them. It would be very harsh to call them a tribute band.
Well I'll hold my hands up to rambling off track a bit - it's a talent of mine And didn't mean to diss Cliff Richard or Daniel O'Donnell - well not much anyway ... actually I'm quite fond of Cliff, though still prefer Brotherhood of Man!
Anyway back to the thread - sadly I can't make Dundee, but hope everyone who goes enjoys it. And am really looking forward to the London gig. There, thread back on track
Got nothing constructive to say ,shut the fcuk up...
There are few enough posts on the forum without discouraging the non-constructive ones.
As it says in the rules right at the top of the show...
POSTING GUIDELINES This forum is intended to provide an atmosphere of open communication, where each member can share his or her own insights and opinions.
The reason for this is that there was enough shutting the fcuk up when "The Management" had control over the forum and posts/threads criticising Geldof were removed.
So if you think the new record is cr@p, if you think Dr. Feelgood are a tribute band or if you think Boney M are the best thing since sliced bread, you are welcome to write about it. Just don't expect to not get a response.
