Well nearly. BBC4 6th Oct

Bob Geldof Interview from 9-10pm and then Boomtown Rats live from Chippenham Goldiggers 1984. This is the concert that I had taped and lost.

Watch out for a youngish Peter Cox from pre Go West on backing vocals.

I've never seen this Chippenham Gold Diggers concert before. In fact I though it was an audio only recording.

We don't get rte. It's not fair you get all the BBC channels. Couldn't find a stream anywhere at the weekend.

Was just thinking 'I don't recall Having my Picture Taken and  Elephant's Graveyard from this concert on TV' then it became clear BBC had included audience warm up in this airing. Happy days!

I have this on vhs from '84 and the warm up songs plus Looking after Number One are not on. Surprised there was so much amnesia surrounding LANO. Crowd took a while to warm up/ seemed to improve immeasurably as the hour went on. Stage invasion with Rat Trap but Bob confused some stupid people with the vaguely Jimmy Cricket impression he likes to do mid-Rat Trap ('Come 'ere, come 'ere')

Not seen this since the mid-90s and nice to take a trip down memory lane with it.

I only caught the end of the show, but it looked kick ass.  Loved the stage invasion by some of the crowd.   For Looking After No. 1, it sounded like Garry had his guitar down at about 7.    I never saw it on its first broadcast, so looking forward to seeing it in the whole.  Shame they didn't have Rock Goes to College in its entirety as well.

If only Sky Arts can go back and show some of the Isle of Wight sets from earlier this year...

Odd gig. Certainly not a full rats audience. Must have been a specially created gig by the BBC with free tickets. Some idiots in the crowd giving Bob a hard time ( I heard knob head several times, by 1 fool who must have been close to a microphone).

Having said that it was good. Good to see the audience warm up and Looking after No1.....I thought my memory had been playing up. The stage invasion was chaotic, with the roadies losing the battle and then the Golddigger suits trying to keep the stage clear.

I just wonder if any of those kids who were on stage watched last night as adults.

As to the songs, I thought Dave was fantastic. Garry had really found his sound after being lost in V Deep. Lucky too was excellent. Tonight really didnt sound good live, mainly cos its out of place in that type of set. But they had to plug it.

All in all excellent.

Great to see this gig and be able to record it on DVD at last. Who were the two backing singers I wonder?

Good interview as well. Anybody else spot the mistake? Showed a clip from the Hammersmith gig of Mondays but put 1978 as the date instead of 1985!

I'm sure Mark mentioned elsewhere on here that one of the singers is the guy who went on to front Go West.

As for mistakes, did have me wondering about a gig from Hammersmith "Apollo" during ITLG tour, but wasn't this actually at Dominion? I only recall a night at the Palais on that tour. Was there one at the "Odeon" (as I'm sure it still was) as well??

The mistake I noticed, unless I misheard, was Live Aid being mentioned as 1995, but could just be my ears.

Sorry Suss I should have written that it stated it was from the Hammersmith gig of '78. It was really a clip of Mondays from the Dominion gig of '85

Re-enactment of the stage invasion at the Roundhouse anyone? Only trouble is I might need a sizeable run up nowadays!

I was thinking the same thing watching, biggest danger is Wes and suss grab the mike.  Still would be one way of clearing everyone out

Pah! Our performance(s) at Wolverhampton have entered into folklore. Just ask Jules biggrin

I'm happy for others to have their own 15 seconds of "fame" though.

We should definitely all try to get in same area out front though. That was what worked well in Cork. Get a dozen or more unashamed devotees going loopy and the mood spreads amazingly quickly. Never quite works as well if the troops are isolated around the joint.

Pre-gig tactical briefing at the Hawley Arms I say. Can all work out who hoists who up onto stage...then acts as catchers in the mosh pit for the divers.

Suspect I'll be well on the way to Gents when it's Wes' turn biggrin Better book St John's to be on permanent standby.

Your Wolverhamptom performance didn't clear everyone out. It was very well received . Definitely turn the mikes off though if I'm singing. Or I'll just mime along to Bob .

I got around to watching the whole of this last night and it was really good. It was all a bit chaotic, as far as the audience was concerned, looked like they dragged them out of the local sixth forms and art schools. Geldof was on good form, and though the set list wasn't the greatest there were some really good performances of Clockwork (without the annoying tickey tock Bobby Boomtown does these days), Someone's Looking, Lucky (which was a surprise how good it was live), Dave and especially Rat Trap which went down a storm. The audience even seemed to like Charmed Lives.

The hair and outfits though...

Still have to watch the Geldof interview, that may have to wait to the weekend.

Some of the audience looked so young it looked like they'd only just finished playing with their Crackerjack pencils!

Always good to see this Sight and Sound concert every now and then. Pete Drummond mangled the introduction of the band though ("haven't been around very long") and Bob mangled "Picture" (coming back too soon with the vocals in the instrumental) but things settled down to a brilliant gig, with good natured stage invasion at the end and then a surprisingly ad hoc version of LANO, which was still only about 6 or 7 years old at the time and must have been played a lot through the glory years? Lines were forgotten, verses in the wrong order but it only ultimately added to the sense of fun this gig looked to be. Stunning performance of SLAY, but I am rather partial to that song smile
