I'm almost certain that Never in a Million Years was not featured on Top of the Pops. But this Ebay sale http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DURAN-DEXYS-QUO-CLIFF-KIM-WILDE-ABC-RATS-BBC-TOP-POPS-TRANS-DISC-892-LP-1981-/370898440302?pt=UK_Records&hash=item565b45106e suggests that either I was wrong (which I dont think I am), that its an unlikley fake or that the Rats did indeed do a "piece" but was never used.

They did not appear on TOTP with either this or the Elephant's Graveyard (Guilty) in 1981. Maybe they did a piece in anticipation of a higher chart placing, but I can't see it myself.

Here are the 1981 TOTP episode guides:

Meanwhile, Happy New Year 2014 to all - started rubbish for me, with a sore throat. Last one of those was Nov 6th/7th after a certain gig, but that one was enjoyably acquired and endured and only lasted for a day or two. This one feels like it's heralding something worse and more lengthy. Great.

Whilst watching the TOTP Story of 1979, it was mentioned that the prodicers of the show always recorded 1 or 2 extra acts. That way they could introduce a "naughty step" for those bands that played up, with the threat of not appearing.

No doubt it also meant that if acts didnt reach their anticipated chart entry, then they could alos be dropped from transmission.

This might explain why "Never in a million years" was included in the recording but never made transmission. Maybe if it had reached just outside the top 40 it may have been included, but 65 no chance.

Appreciate this isn't the performance we're talking about but thought I'd post this as don't recall seeing before. As usual, was looking for something else and stumbled across it. Apologies if posted already - didn't check.

TopPop was the Dutch version of TOTP

I first posted this 05/02/12 but then the link died.

Thanks for highlighting again - this is a good performance.

Released Spring 1982, so always a bit behind the UK, but wonder how this did on the Aussie charts?

And what did Bob say about Split Endz?

Was there an alternate video for NIAMY? These comments under the official video  on YouTube suggest there was:

This song had an alternate video that is impossible to find.very different with white and black angles and sharp contrasts and shadows, with Bob playing the teen dream with plaid shirt etc. But it's all pretty effective. too bad can't find that one anywhere,

One of my favorite tunes of all time. Never saw this video till now. But I remember watching a totally different video for this on a late night TV show here in the U.S. when it first came out.
