Not the main point of the article, but still - JEEZ!

From the article linked above:

"Britain probably has a longer tradition of staging mass cultural events for charitable and political ends than any other rich country. In the 1970s, long before Live Aid, there was the Concert for Bangladesh and Rock Against Racism."

*spits soda all over the keyboard*

Excuse me, but where in Britain is Madison Square Garden located????  I thought not.  A longer tradition my ass!

From Amazon's description of the recently released DVD:  "Ex-Beatle George Harrison organized this spectacular concert on August 1, 1971 at New York's Madison Square Garden to help aid the people from Bangladesh with all the money raised destined to that cause. Along with Harrison the concert features Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Leon Rusell, Klaus Voormann and an Indian music section by Ravi Shankar and a set by the legendary Bob Dylan."

Why did those good British citizens have to come all the way to New York City to put on the show?  Sad, really.
