There have been a load of these intimate gigs near me in recent weeks such as Damon Albarn at Leytonstone Library and the Red Lion across the road from it.
She also teased fans in attendance by revealing she would be performing a rendition of the Boomtown Rats' I Don't Like Mondays at an upcoming London show as a tribute to frontman Bob Geldof's daughter Peaches, who died last month (Apr14).
I wonder if The Rats fancy having a go at Smells Like Teen Spirit at my local...

Not sure if I'd be that impressed seeing The Rats play down the local pub or library. I think Malibu by Hole is one of the greatest rock songs ever. I think it's about the death of kurt Cobain, but it is excellent.
I like Nirvana a lot, but not that keen on Teen Spirit. Rats doing All Apologies might be good, or Heart Shaped Box, or Pennyroyal Tea or Dumb.

Really? You went to the pub gig near Crawley! I travelled to deepest Surrey and Dublin to see The Rats do similar.
After seeing the Rats 7 times recently at proper venues just seeing them down the local pub would be a bit of an anticlimax. Not that they wouldn't do a good job in a pub, but part of the thrill and excitement of going to the gigs is the venue, and there is a bigger kick in seeing a band in a decent sized, 'proper' venue.
The occasional small, odd venue might work, but if a band is in the 'bigtime', whatever that may mean, then you expect a range of venues that would hold 1,500- 5,000 or more. The Rats festival crowds should exceed those numbers, so the days of playing down a small pub are over, as long as the band all get on, and continue to play.
I'm glad the Rats have the chance to play bigger venues again, and I don't take it for granted. It really is a privilege to see them play live.
