... I would like a double vinyl release of any concert recording circa 1978.

I've said a brand new album. Mainly out of curiosity. However, not overly impressed with the new material.

The old stuff is largely such a high standard that it will keep me going for ever.

I think that it seems very clear that the Rats are not producing any new stuff of any relavance. I agree with Argee, i listen daily to Rats albums but to be honest even ITLG does not get played. We all kind of think that the rats ended their creative days too early i think but in reality certainly the first two albums are still the best albums in anybodies collection with fine art and mondo giving some great tunes but not complete quality albums and last years IOW and subsequent smaller gigs have reiterated that this is the best band ever to walk the planet ( No exceptions )

Long live the Rats

Rumour has it there will be a DVD of a German TV performance from 78 coming out sometime. Might be able to lift audio from that.

I can.  Would it be much different from the Rock Goes To College or The Hammersmith Odeon DVD?  I'd be happy with the Hammersmith set on vinyl, but would like it to be a full on gatefold with impressive photography.  Concert Live had the Franz Ferdinand gig  and Stranglers at Royal Albert Hall on a double LP, which I am looking forward to getting next month.

Would back a new album 100% Why not the bands back, so the next thing would have to be new songs.  After all I did go and buy all of Bobs solos stuff. So anything for me that has the Rats or Geldof name on it I will always get No matter if it's good bad or ugly I'm taking my time, I'm taking my time. I won't hurry.

Basically there are only good or bad songs. If Geldof felt confident about his songwriting then it would be a new album. Period. He used the lame excuse that no one is interested in new songs, but that's not true for Bowie, U2, Costello,Springsteen, Cohen, and the recent Johnny Marr album from a couple of years ago.

Why does he not write a song about Facebook or Google's 'soul mining' rather then just explain it in interviews. Is he that bereft of ideas? Surely there's lots to be angry and fed up about in the modern world. The technological takeover of ordinary life and the medium as message are worthy themes for songs but if Bob had the tunes then maybe he would write the songs. Lame songs about rats just don't cut the mustard.

A German tv dvd from 78 sounds interesting, no problem with that.  Endlessly repackaging  and tweaking the greatest hits might be ok for promoting the coming tour, but a new album of worthy material is the only thing that could cap an unbelievable period of great live performances and a comeback that has largely exceeded all expectations, for both band and fans.smile

Any more info on this? Is it a full concert? There were appearances at the Musikladen tv shows, but these amount to about 6 songs from 2 episodes, hardly enough to warrant a dvd. Some other odds and ends from German tv appearances also but a full dvd release?

I have never had any hint of a 'lost' German show/performance from 1978, so am quite curious? I understand if you do not wish to give further details ,but it's interesting.smile

If we could get some songs at least in the calibre of Back to Boomtown,  I'd like a new album.

Hi Noel, no more info than that I'm afraid. Was just mentioned in passing in Boston. I'll see if I can find out more and share.
