Great gig, band was in top form. I preferred last years set list with Joey and When the Night Comes,but thought the band were tighter this year, especially Bob, and Darren messing around on stage with Bob is reminiscent of Bob and Pete in the old days. As they played the same venue last year it was noticeable that there were far fewer in audience this time,with upper tier closed. Still enough for a great atmosphere though. A shame that Bobs banter was very similar to last year as I guess most had heard it all before.

Worth getting to gig for 8pm to see Republica, were a good support band,even if their set was less than 1/2 hour and then Rats at 9 for a 1hr 30 set.

That's a good choice for a support, didn't realise Republica where still going. Thanks for the stage times too.

If they are not playing those they should play some other songs It's getting more like a festival set. That's three songs less than Cork.

What makes it worse is that the typed setlist includes Joey and other songs scrubbed out without any replacement. Even if at Wolverhampton it was a last minute decision to ditch them,you'd have thought they would have at least printed out the correct ones for Newcastle and future gigs.

Having said that if I'd known the setlist before hand would I still have gone? Yes, absolutely, but 3 extra songs would have been better.

In Dublin, The Bradbury Rats had a few songs like My Blues Away, A Second Time and When The Wife (sic) Comes printed on the set list. They did come back and do Mary as an encore but when I pointed out to Garrick they had more songs to do, he told me to fcuk off I took the setlist anyway. Wasn't quick enough to get the Blackheath one.

I think they have the same set list on tour which they abridge depending on curfew/mood. I assume they did the "I wanna be your man/Boom Boom" interlude which to me is at least five minutes worth of dicking around. I wonder if they will have some sax later in the tour when they hit the south. If so, then I'd expect Joey to come back again/

It's a bit weird that the have chosen to play some cities again, when in theory it's suppose to be the cities they missed out on last year. Maybe Sunderland or Middlesbrough would have been a better choice, and would have got a full house?

But then again they are playing Bournemouth, Manchester, london, Bristol, and Cambridge as they did last year? Just a bit curious as to why some towns get second helpings?

I can't imagine they wouldn't repeat London. Bristol was one the highlights. Repeating it could be a good or bad thing?

In theory as last years tour was very successful in terms of ticket sales they should repeat all venues. But then you would expect ticket sales to be somewhat lower, for many, seeing the band once, would be enough, unless they are really big fans.

It's probably a lot to do with venue availability as well.I'm still not sure how tours are organised, or is it all just intelligent guesswork?i'm still holding out for a Christmas gig in Ireland- they need to get the old 'Mary Christmas' sign out from TOTP 1977. smile

A return to London isn't that surprising as half the band live there. Odd it wasn't the last night but maybe Simon arranged the trip to the south west. Manchester is big enough for a revisit.

And also going back to Cambridge is no surprise given how wonderful the audience were that night. Well I was anyway

Ain't got a clue why they are going to Bournemouth. Probably lots of retired fans on the south coast.

As for Middlesbrough & Sunderland, I don't think either are really big enough cities to get a big audience, and Sunderland is very well connected to Newcastle via the Metro. I suspect most people in Sunderland would generally go to Newcastle for a night out in the same way people in the south east gravitate to London.

I think it was smart to do smaller venues in London and Cambridge. Although the Roundhouse sold out, there were a number of free tickets. I know cos I got a pair as well as the pair I'd bought. And at the Corn Exchange there were a number of discounted tickets, again I know cos I picked up a bundle at the end of the night. The worst case scenario for the London Forum is to close off the upstairs, but that would still mean a sizable crowd downstairs and the Cambridge date looks to be near enough sold out though there suddenly seem to be a lot more tickets available from the venue.

Unless it is a surprise date at a surprise venue, it's unlikely they will play Dublin. There are no weekend slots at Vicar Street until the end of the year and likewise the Olympia which goes into panto come 17th December.
