It's a bit like the football close season. Not too much to report, but the gigs start on 22 May in karlsrud, Sweeden followed by a another 'away fixture' in Munich on 27 th May.

Hope you get to see the Rats again this year MATT, it's easy and cheap enough to get over to England or wherever they are playing, and how knows they might play in Ireland this year too? It's forty years since the band was founded, so maybe a Dublin gig is on the cards.

First gig was at Bolton St College of Technology in October 1975. Tempis fugit (that's 'time flies' in Latinsmile)

Yeah agree with you. I got to see them in Oxford nov 14. Which was a great wee gig, and 1st time seeing them outside of Ireland. Also got to meet up with some great rat fans. And yes Suss was as always right up front. Have to say a very nice guy. Like yourself I too am hoping that if they do a gig later in the year An Irish one is on the cards

Cheers mate Likewise. Hope your son in is enjoying Oxford.

Agree with Noel, just waiting for the Rats to come out of hibernation then I'm sure there will be posts about gigs / sets etc. Probably not much about the past we haven't covered now, apart from those elusive US lyrics for the ITLG tracks!

Maybe I should devise another quiz. That'll get ArrGee posting in protest if nothing else

Looking forward to some gigs and seeing friends again. Been some great times...

Not too long to wait. Hope they do proper Autumn tour, with Ireland included. Who'd be up for Oxford again? .

Be very interesting to see if a promoter wants to do UK cities again with most likely a very similar set. A number of 2014 venues were slightly smaller than 2013, so they're realistic about demand. Which cities have missed out altogether so far? Cardiff, Swansea, Limerick, Galway, Stoke, Brighton, Plymouth, Southampton, Sunderland and Edinburgh spring to mind, but they've played within reach of most of those, apart from the Irish ones and Swansea maybe.

I'd be disappointed but not unduly surprised if there wasn't a full on tour again.

If they do do it again, I'm sure they'd at least keep Bristol in. Maybe they'd scale it down to fewer venues, but whether it would be worth their while turning out for, say, 8 gigs is another question.

Post Glastonbury which I suspect they will play it's likely some autumn/winter dates will be announced on a par with the last two Uk tours. Can't see them doing smaller venues nor obscure towns as it wouldn't be financially viable.  as a minimum, couple of big dates in London and Dublin for the forty year anniversary around Halloween would go down well.

Depends on the eight dates.  London and Dublin would be big enough for a couple, and if they had dates in Glasgow, Bristol, Belfast, Manchester and Birmingham that would cover most of the British Isles.  that should just about make it worth their while.

Would they do bigger venues, though and would they sell out? Coming to your local town or within 10-15 miles is one thing... Unfortunately there is only one Suss and the lesser Suss (me). .

Last time out they did Cambridge junction j1 with a capacity of 850 which is probably as small as they would probably want to do in order to make enough.  I doubt they will go back to Cambridge again, but should be able to do a few 1000 capacity venues along with a couple of bigger dates in London and Dublin.

Finland has been known for a while (it's on here) but I didn't know about the other European dates. Lublin is very handy for our resident Polish fan who was in Cork and Oxford

Of course it has. Poland is very interesting too, but already going to Stuttgart for BG solo and hoping for Brussels, so can't think about it.

Their real home town is Dun laoghaire. The Pavilion Theatre there might make a good venue, and surely enough people in that area would turn out for a homecoming 40 year anniversary gig. Not sure of the capacity, but I don't see why not.

I've no idea yet which gigs I will be going to. Bristol in June is a possibility, but the other acts don't really inspire.

re London the have done north London twice- maybe somewhere like Hammersmith in the west, or a central gig, or Brixton or somewhere  would be good. Anyway great to see more gigs in Europe announced.smile

Rats unlikely to sell out Hammersmith or Brixton. Nowhere central worth playing.  Troxy would be a good option.
