3 points. Talking in code. A different kind of song for the Rats.

Apart from piege (had to to look that one up!) it was all from fading memory...and no doubt the grammar proves it! Still, as we always say, if you can get the gist...
Amazing how few people put Mondays in the top 10!!
I only did out of a sense of loyalty truth be told, as it meant so much more to me once upon a time.
I stopped watching as soon as the blatant, political vote rigging antics became obvious, I suppose just after the break up of Yugoslavia.
It was ironic a couple of years ago, allegations of vote-fixing arose after Azerbaijan failed to award any points to neighbouring Russia.
It prompted Azeri President Ilham Aliyev to order an inquiry, as traditionally ex-Soviet republics have regularly given each other top marks! New rules with the threat of a 3 year ban have been introduced.
Taking a leaf out of all voting events on here, including Rattyvision, each country's jury will now be revealed ahead of each year's contest in an effort to increase openness and accountability.
Previously, the identity of jury members - whose votes account for 50% of the total score awarded to competing countries - was not disclosed until after the final.
12 rat trap
10 mondays
8 eva braun
7 elephants graveyard
6 shes so modern
5 someones looking at you

From your list I had two answers in mind. That wasn't one of them!
Really. In lighten me
I just assumed they were in order mate, but wasn't sure which was 12 and which was 1.
Yeah that's me abit all over the place. Random LOL It's hard to pick Rat songs so many good one's. I have been given each album a wee turn this last few weeks again, and some times it's just like hearing them for the 1st time and you sit back and think Amazing
Never in a Million Years is currently a track I think is good but not in my top 10. Yet sometimes I will go through a phase of thinking it was the song of 1981, the one that got away, a genius track. Not a suited to Christmas track and a daft cover that said nothing, but given an earlier in 81 release date, and better design, who knows?

There have been a dozen voters and almost 50 different songs chosen suggesting people like the Rats for differing reasons. I would have at least another fifty good songs outside the ten I selected.

Million Years is a real marmite track. Generally not that popular, but for me their best track. Has a lot more emotional appeal for me than say Shes So Modern or down with the kids on Kicks. Not saying the latter two tracks are not good, but sometimes something in songs just resonates at a personal level. Million years just seems packed with emotion and defiance of some strange quality, well for me anyway.
Have the gunners recorded an FA cup single? Maybe Venger could record a Jacques Brel album a la Scott Walker.
The cup final song was essential listening. Cup finals are rubbish nowadays. In the past I was fortunate enough to get a ticket and enjoy the trip to Old Wembley/Cardiff so I didn't realize how bad the TV coverage was.
I got up early for last year's and it started badly with my local Tesco Express refusing o sell me a dozen bottles of beer (one for each nation represented by the Arsenal team) before 9am after seeing me load up the basket. Then I watched the dire BBC/BT Sport coverage until eventually the game started at about 5pm only for Arsenal to give Hull a two goal head start. To be fair from that point onwards it got better having a bottle of San Miguel when Carzorla scored, followed by a Kronenbourg for Koscielny's equaliser and a lovely bottle of Brains SA when Ramsey bagged the winner.
Have to find a suitable Chilean beer to stock up on this year, though to be honest I might just open a bottle of Carmenere and hope Alexis scores.
This season's likely line up
Colombia/Poland (unlikely to be needed)
Spain Germany France Spain
Wales France Spain
Chile Germany
France
Subs: England/Czech Republic/Brazil
I reckon the aforementioned Carmenere, three bottles of San Miguel, three bottles of Kronenbourg along with a couple of Brains SA and a Warsteiner should cover most eventualities. Might get some London Pride in as well
*ITV were first on air this year with "World of Sport: FA Cup Final" starting at 11:30am, they also had a networked Friday night preview show "Who'll win the Cup" at 10:30-11pm. The Saturday show had a series of "Wembley Starspot's" and kicked off with "It's Goals That Count", the panel were introduced at 11:50am (Jimmy Hill, Malcolm Allison, Derek Dougan and Pat Crerand), followed by "Arsenal or Liverpool?" at 12:05pm (historical pointers) then "Penalty Prize" at 12:25 (15 year old "On the Ball" penalty champion taking on Bob McNab) and "My Dad's at Wembley", they then showed Wrestling and Racing before returning to Wembley at 2:10 for "Final Analysis", interviews were conducted by Gerald Sinstadt. BBC1's "Cup Final Grandstand" began at 11:45am and included "It's A Cup Final Knock-out" (basically a slap-stick sports day for grown ups) at 12:55-1:40pm. The match was 0-0 after 90 minutes, Steve Heighway put Liverpool ahead two minutes into extra-time, Eddie Kelly was credited with the equaliser on 101 (making him the first ever sub to score in an FA Cup final) and a legendary strike by Charlie George on 111 mins completed Arsenal's League title and FA Cup double (10 years after Spurs had become the first club to achieve this feat in the 1900's). "Match of the Day" highlights were on BBC1 from 10-11pm, Ken Wolstenholme commentated on his last FA Cup final having first voiced the final for BBC television in 1949. Most ITV regions had something called "Cup Final Inquest" scheduled for Sunday afternoon at various times (London 2-3pm), ATV are listed as showing "FA Cup Final Highlights" from 2:15-3:15pm.

Brady, Stapleton and O Leary would have been three pints of Liffey water then , but I can't remember the last time Arsenal had an Irish player. Must have been Niall Quinn. Now they're all Johnny Foreigners. More Ski's than an Alpine holiday resort. Some with Middlesbrough nowadays,it's a bit harder to really care, thought there is the playoff against Brentford tonight.
I can remember back to Southampton/Man Utd in 1976. Also remember Arsenal Ipswich/West Ham and Arsenal/Utd in 1979. My youngest brother was an Arsenal fan and I always remember when Swindon beat Arsenal in the FA cup in 1979 he cried his eyes out. Given he was about ten years old at the time.

...

Less complicated times. Just English, Scotch(sic) or Irish players.
Eddie McGoldrick was the last, though he is probably less Irish than I am as he was born in Islington. They gave up on the Irish after he turned up!
You do have Aaron Ramsey of the Principality
.Amazing how many people you see in Dublin wearing Chelsea shirts nowadays. Lets say it's much more than you'd see wearing Arsenal ones, thought it's just my personal observation, and totally unscientific.

Probably because of all the Irish players they have like Didier De Rogba and Eden O'Hazard. I guess Gary Cahill must have some Irish roots, but doubt that would explain it. Just typical west brit glory hunters who all used to support Liverpoo and Man Ure. Why don't they support St. Patrick's Athletic? They have a superb kit

Best shirts ever Middlesbrough in the late 70's....

Very special post from kla_ge! Well done. Always good to see Picture Taken getting some credit. Now will Derek get his vote in before the deadline or is the Danish jury in terminal technical difficulties
In answer to your question: 7 Punkte "Bananenrepublik" (Banana Republic - is this about Germany???)
The song is actually about Ireland. The references to "police and priests" is about the troubles that BG experienced whilst growing up in Ireland. Ireland is quite a Catholic country and the influence of religion is quite strong. The role played by Catholic priests has grabbed one or two headlines in recent years, and these stories do date back in time. I don't know the precise details but pretty sure that someone will be able to fill you in.

That was tongue in cheek referencing Geldof's stage banter that it was #1 in Germany cos the Germans thought it was about them cos they think everything is
I got this Viz letter come up on my facebook .
Next year, why don't we get Johnny Vegas to take a dump on stage. At worst we'll only get ten points less than this year, but the Germans might score us a twelve because they like that sort of thing.:)
I was a bit surprised that Neon Heart and Close As You'll Ever Be were nul point given both are live staples.
Real Different ranks highly yet again which does surprise me, but this totally unscientific survey does suggest that Dave would be the most popular song to add to the setlist.
Also over half the songs got at least un point.
The nul point songs (many quite undeserving)...
A Second Time
A Storm Breaks
An Icicle in the Sun
Another Sad Story
Arnold Layne
Bare Footin
Can't Stop
Charmed Lives
Cheerio
Close as You'll Ever Be
D.U.N. L.O.A.G.H.A.I.R.E
Do the Rat
Don't Talk to Me
Drag Me Down
Episode #3
Fanzine Hero
How Do You Do ?
Lucky
Lying Again
Man At The Top
Mood Mambo
My Blues Away
Neon Heart
Never Bite the Hand That Feeds
Nice N Neat
No Hiding Place
Nothing Happened Today
Please Don't Go
Precious Time
Ratified
Ratlife
Say Hi to Mick
She's Not the Best
Sleep
So Strange
The Boomtown Rats
The Little Death
Tonight
Under Their Thumb Is Under My Thumb
Up All Night
Up or Down
Whitehall 1212
Wind Chill Factor
There weren't enough points to around. I wanted to give more points to many and had to knock off fantastic songs.
How about a wooden spoon competition for the nul point songs? Another Piece of Red has avoided that ignominy. I can't see past the Ratsh!t EP for the favourites but Charmed Lives is there as a contender.
They maybe the only contenders. Others are at least worthy of un point.
Oh I don't know there are a few I would give nul point to. Arnold Layne, Little Death, Say Hi To Mick and She's Not The Best would be in the mix. Charmed Lives might not even make my bottom ten. I should really have excluded "non" songs like Cheerio and Episode #3 along with House Burned Down which I did omit on the basis that it is a abridged House on Fire.
Apologies, I missed the previous post, reducing the scores by 1 and effectively leaving Picture with less votes than the Lib Dems have MPs. Real Different doesn't surprise me at all and should have remembered to put this one in the Mood Enhancer category!
