does anyone know about this Italian lp from1990 items it's fre with a music mag have seen track listing and it looks like a best of compilation Only released in Italy What other gems are out there?
I have it(of course). It has 11 songs on it.Side 1 Lookin after No 1,2 Mary,3 Mondays,4 Drag Me Down,5 Mood Mambo,6 Tonight.Side b 1 Rat Trap,2 Banana,3 Never In A Million,4 Charmed Liver,5 House On Fire.It was only released in Italy on the Mercury record label. The cover has 2 pictures, one with the Rats in a cage, the other with BG standing on 1 leg.The BG picture looks like something taken from his solo career in 1986.
There is also a best of from Japan and America out there.
I've often toyed with the idea of purchasing the Japanese Greatest hits but the cd rarely comes up on eil or ebay and when it does it is over £40. However I like the artwork. Is House on Fire the single edit or the version that starts hornless?
All singles up to house on fire and dave. Not a bad compilation. Just gotta get american greatest hits( if I can find one that the postage isn't too bad. I don't fancy robbing a bank ) and rain 12inch single and I have nearly every thing then
Single version of House on Fire has a longer playout than album version, same with Charmed Lives. In the case of the former, it adds to the pleasure. In the case of the latter, it only adds to the misery. Can't do a thing with it, look at it, this way and that...
Yeh must admit I don't like charmd lives. I bought it tough because. It was what they released. A lot of best ofs always play album versions of singles instead of original singles. It would be nice to have them properly on cd. But hey yu can't have everything!
I agree Mike. They broke with tradition on So Modern by putting the single edit of Banana Republic on there. Generally they run with album versions on any hits release.
If they're thinking of a special 40 year Ruby Rats release, single edits and b sides please!
Single edit and Back to Boomtown version sound remarkably similar to me. It's definitely as close as you'll ever be and not that 'many rivers to cross' version.
What would you say are the main differences?

They indeed thought it was fruitless to put it on So Modern, after putting it on Back to Boomtown, Classic Rats Hits prior.
Bananas ain't fruit. They are herbs.
Who said they were?
Biologists. Banana plants are herbaceous perennials. Hence herbs!
Also you can't plant a banana and expect it to grow. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant. It's possible that the banana was once a fruit, but it has evolved in such a manner that it fails the fruit test. Tomatoes are true fruits

I'll rephrase the question. Who said bananas were fruit?

You are right. It is the proper single mix. I thought it was the same edit mix from loudmouth. Apologies.

Just listening to il rock ( Italian. Rats compilation ) good to hear single version of Monday's ( Most compilations always use lp version ) this is quite refreshing
It was on a number of compilation CDs (as well as the original single of course). I never liked the reprise, and had they not interrupted us in Dublin, we may have not heard it. More generally, if they didn't dick around with Banana Republic, Mary of The 4th Form and Mondays live, they could easily stick another couple of songs in, or at least let us get down the pub sooner.
