I really don't understand how anyone can question Bob or Bono's sincerity or anything to do with their work for Africa. The personal time and effort they put in for this concern is beyond any question. So what if they both have a big ego? Maybe they need it to do what they've done. And what they've done is pretty incredible wouldn't you say?
It is just a pathetic, petty stupid excuse to slag him off. They have no real reason for doing so. It is probably jealousy, because these people don't have the energy, persuasion and influence that either Bob or Bono have.
Loved the "Weller snubbed Live 8" bit - actually, he wasn't asked, & I think that's what's bothering him.
It's Ray Davies & Live Aid all over again, "Well, we wouldn't have taken part if we were asked anyway..."...
...yeah, sure!...

That was the Q interview....
Defending his decision not to appear at the global concert he says, "You can't knock the idea, but the amount of ego involved is sickening. "I don't want to knock it because if it saves lives, then who am I? "But when I see Sir Bob dressed as CHAIRMAN MAO with his fist raised, surrounded by African kids, it's a bit suspect."
Suspect? WTF does he mean? It's not like Jacko at the Brits in 96. Suburban to$$er.
The ONLY time Weller gets publicity nowadays is when he is slagging people off. Thats why he does it, because it keeps him in the news. Would Bob have achieved everything he has and would presidents and prime ministers listen to him if he was a quiet, modest, unopinionated man who blends into the background like everyone else? Of course not. He does have a big ego, but equally he has a big heart. If Weller has any doubt about his sincerity, he should read Geldof in Africa, especially the part where he was in tears over the children maybe would sense his real love for the place. Can he actually read?
I'm starting to get seriously sick of all this bull**** coming from Paul Wellers mouth. Is he jealous? He must be & also he is the attention seeker not our Bob. Live 8 consisted of BIG names & he doesn't come into that category. The only big thing I'd associate with him is the big headache I get everytime I hear his name mentioned lately...

LMAOFOMCROFL.ah those jokes eased the anger of weller being his usual divoty self and those blinkin chavs at school.grrrrrrrr I hat them. sorry i had to get that off my chest.good to see some snow too
How does PW change a lightbulb? He just stands still and the world revolves around him.
How many of Bob's band does it take to change a lightbulb? Two, Johnny to change it, as I think he is the tallest and Bob to say "I could have done it f*****g better myself" er, I made that one up, you can probaly tell.
I was going to tell a few Englishman, irishman, Scotsman jokes, but I think they are probably classed as racist now. OK just one then.
Paul Weller, Midge Ure and Bob Geldof went into a pub together (use your imagination). They each bought a pint of Guiness. There was a fly in each pint. Weller asked for and received another pint, Ure took the fly out and carried on drinking, Geldof took the fly out, shook it over the glass and said "spit it out you little fe***r, spit it out"
Maybe he can buy me a drink next Sunday in Glasgow for that, though Midge Ure says he is a bit tight, when it comes to buying a round!
I just saw a documentary about how does an Oscar ceremony come together and what money does one actor or actress pays to look good and I thought wow, thank God Bob is my ideal not some one from hollywood. Millions for one dress.
If he apprears at an award ceremony he doesn't pay millons just to look great just for one night. he usually wears the same suit, although has the money to buy 30 other. You can see his wrinkles or that scare on his neck he doesn't hide them. He doen't want to look younger.
While other star pay millions to look good and i thik it is great that Bob is this modest.
yeah, i mean did you see paris hilton at the brits?her dress was made of gold and tiny diamonds and weighed 10lb.why would you waste your money.it didn't even look nice but Bob always does
They don't pay for their dresses, the designers loan them (or give them outright depending on the person's star power) in exchange for the answer to the question "Who are you wearing"? Awards ceremonies are elaborate rituals of advertising.
I'll have to pass on your recommendation to Olga - does she play the bass or drums at all?

Weller has a reputation which is founded on being, ahem , conservative (with a small c). His music was very derivative, and The Jam latched onto being mods very quickly and established a large UK fan base. His legacy has been a series of plodding bands who lack any invention (like himself), yet are hugely popular.
I find much of Weller's later work more interesting than Geldof's (but that ain't difficult), and he has written some half decent songs. His performance at the Brits was far better than Geldof's as by playing more contemporary songs (bar an appalling Town Like Alice (sic)) he did appear to have newer material, unlike Geldof dragging out 20+ year old songs.
I think he is a bit of a tw@t on the whole, but arguably he has had a music career since 1986....
I have to disagree there.bob's performance at the Brits provoked me to go and buy some more of his stuff as i only had a few best of's and stuff.where as weller left me cold.his new stuff sounds so repetitive and it just bored the heck out of me.i admit i'm still gonna buy snap! but thats the jam
Well, I hope it really happens. It would be great if I could go with the fan club. they will probably go backstage. I would really like to meet Bob. Last summer I was only metres from him I passed by Trafalgar squere in that minuite when he was there during the two minuite silence for the bomb victims.
