Boomtown Rats clip surfaces on You Tube after being v deep in the long grass since 1984 and provides instant tonic for the troops.

I think I vaguely remember this I know they tried to push this single very much it nearly charted. And should've been massive instead of the garbage that was in the charts at the time

Mark should get an award for service to Rat fans. This clip had only just been loaded but within 24 hours he's found and shared it - top man!

Rats about 17m 30s in for anyone who can't take more than a few minutes of Cheggers' 'enthusiasm' or Modern Romance hairstyle.

Interesting how the song is suddenly/briefly 'YOU Drag Me Down' (bit like So Strange getting new title I'd never heard on the Germany DVD).

Another great find though. Cheers Mark

Cheers Suss - It's a pleasure to find and then share them. You Tube is brilliant for this. Slowly but surely these things come to the surface so I'm sure other gems will appear in the fullness of time. I really should get with the programme rather than rely on others to upload. I have ITV's similar offering,  Razzmatazz, with the same song (and raincoat! )

Some observations:

High energy performance from Garry,  not much diminished from the Musikladen dvd performance we've been watching from '78.

Fingers not very well featured by the cameramen, reduced to background status only.

Good camera work and editing otherwise,  following the flow of the song and Simon's drum rolls etc. 6 of the 8 'oh oh' s were broadcast in cleverly alternated shots between Bob and group. Not sure why the last 2 were broadcast as a group shot.

How big were Bob's boots? !

Group bow at closing horns same as on Razzmatazz.

'You drag me down' is also given as the song's title on Don't Watch That Watch This - video compilation released in the summer of '84.

Hear hear! There were numerous TV performances and decent radio play,  yet even with these and Garry's 'endeavours' and the quality of the song,  it merely staggered to chart position 50.

So near yet so far away

I should've read this comment before skipping through - those cheering children have given me a twitch. Never even heard of this programme before and hope never to see it again. Enjoyable Rats performance mind you, particularly from Garry (he's just doing whatever he fancies with that guitar by the end, isn't he?)

Garry throttles that guitar and at one stage gives up on it as he untangles the strap around his neck.

I saw Cheggers last year as 'Buttons' in local panto! Also saw Toyah in 2002 as Aladdin - wonder whether Bob will ever appear in panto land, and if so what character would suit him?
