Slightly reordered set for the unusual one hour slot which kicked off with She's So Modern followed by Clockwork, Do You In, Someone's Looking, Mondays, Close As You'll Ever Be, Mary, No 1, Rat Trap, The Boomtown Rats. Say what you liek about that last sone but it goes down a storm at gigs and for my money is becoming a bona fide Rats 'classic'. Also had sax on stage for last 2 tracks.

Rather than me heap the usual praise on set I'll quote 3 comments I heard as crowd dispersed after their set. First was a group behind me where one woman said 'that was heaven, best thing we've seen so far' to her friends, another group of girls all under 20 overheard as saying 'didn't expect to enjoy that but I really did' and then one of the Latitude staff saying to colleague 'Boomtown Rats! Just blew them away....'

Says it all....

p.s. Got a couple of pics; I'll post later

A mixed bag on Twitter. Lots of praise. Some complaints about BG dropping the C bomb!!

Really? Don't remember him saying that - unless you're talking about the reference to audience in shorts all dressed like David Cameron? wink

Certainly lots of Fs but wasn't aware of any C, and no one round me reacted in slightest if there was, even those with kids (of which there were plenty).

Not a drop smile, although judging by typos above can see why you'd think that.

Alright maybe 'classic' is an exaggeration but I'd bet a vast number of attendees will remember that as much as Mondays or Rat Trap from the day, so it's becoming a live staple and being last in set always leaves an enduring memory. Also gets more people moving and shouting/singing than anything else in the set.

Interesting interview with Garry.

The good news, they are touring towards the end of the year.  The bad news...

"I'm hoping that towards the end of the year- when we have a bit of a hiatus from the tour- we will get together and put together some new stuff at least. It might only be a 2 track EP but it will be new and it will be different to the old."

 .. arrrgh!!!

"... Noel Gallagher insisted we were second on so he didn't have to come on too soon after us! He insisted we were at least three to four places below him on the bill"

After Britpop wars, now it's Paddypop wars.  Maybe noel will be bringing out a record on the same day as the two track ep...

Probably did, but as you'll see they're more in 'down time'. I try not to snap during songs too much as a) I want to watch/listen b) someone invariably jogs you or sticks an arm in your way

There was filming yesterday too, possibly for Sky? And Hamish was busy, so might be more montage work to come hopefully.

From memory I think he said:

"I made an effort in my fake snakeskin suit.  You're all wearing your **** T shirts and your crap weekend shorts.  You all look like C***s!"

I took a couple of videos which are here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqtX4gWNaBU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdU2fpotFOE

Great footage there. Captures it well. Thanks for links.

I'm sure you're right about the language too - maybe we just got immune to it?

p.s. Not sure if you knew already but Rats sound man already shared your Rat Trap footage on FB. He was impressed as well.

I didn't know and I'm impressed he did that!  Really happy with the camera (Lumix TZ70 from Panasonic), don't think there's a better camera for gigs that you can stick in your pocket.

That's by far the best quality audience recorded Rats footage I've seen on Youtube.Excellent job.
I was going to say pity you didn't capture the whole lot but that would be churlish.:)

Love the idea that Noel didn't want to go on after the Rats.Reminds me of The Who not wanting to follow Hendrix at Monterrey.

Eddie Curry, I'm impressed with the quality of those videos and am interested in that camera. Do you you have any low light photos to share? It gets very go write ups and reviews.

It's a new camera and I haven't got any low light photos (I have a D7000 as well and if I can get in the press pits I usually use that one) but it's a big improvement on the TZ7 which I used before - which is also a great camera.  I've heard my new one is OK in low light although not the best, but pretty good if you can't get a DSLR into a gig.

I use a LUMIX Bridge camera. Most of the time I can get it in. It is reasonable in short distances, any further back I have to zoom in on a high ISO and it is very grainy. Write ups say the TZ7 handles low light well, even zoomed in. Although it has fewer pixels Panasonic have done something else (forgotten exactly what) which enables this. See if I can fin it gain.

I'm not a pro and wouldn't go in the press pit, just looking to improve my amateur skills .

Found it. They've improved the viewfinder and image stabiliser. Curious as to whether I could get get less grainy shots of my Rats gigs . Looks a bit pricey right now Though.

Just catching up with the various You Tube clips. Looked brilliant, but why the 46 seconds gap after 'How to die' until 'and then the bullhorn crackles'?

This must be the longest ever pause. Awkward and puzzling for most. I wish I understood it.

The gap gets longer. He's done this since Live Aid. For some reason everyone cheers.

Rats on episode 2 of Sky Arts Latitude coverage right now (She's Gonna Do You In) including a nice slow-mo shot of Suss ;) presumably this'll go up on SkyGo/on demand things at some point

On Now TV at 39 minutes in if you want to skip through.

Pretty impressive line up with Catfish, Vaccines, Noel etc.   Maybe I should have gone,  but I think Mrs. ArrGee preferred her night at the theatre.   Not sure she would have appreciated heading off to Suffolk for her anniversary treat.

Good festival to play given the audience and TV exposure.  Might get a few more interested in the October/November tour dates, especially after Rebellion.
