Posted on Boomtown Rats page on FB (nothing to do with me):
Later tonight we will be posting an opportunity to apply for tickets for a potential and unique Rats' Anniversary show in London, either late 2015 or early 2016. It will be on a first come, first served basis, which will be determined by 'likes' on that Facebook post. Those who are successful in applying will get an e-mail and FB reply as confirmation. To put things into some sort of perspective, we would be charging £20 a ticket, plus postage if you don't want to collect on the night.
You can't unless you're watching them. Mine was one of the first, if not the first, but FB jumbles them round. It will probably be the last now . We just have to wait now and keep everything crossed. Good luck all, hope to see you there.
This would be nice to see. After all not getting any younger, so time for the reformed Rats to do one last good gig B4 calling it a day. Me well I'll be Doing the rat until I'm in my grave RIP
A VERY SPECIAL LONDON SHOW - Ain't they all? Mainly cos I'm there
A CELEBRATION OF OVER 40 YEARS OF RATTIN' - Well technically as Pete Townsend put it regarding The Who's recent Hits 50, it's only 16 cos they weren't active all all for the other 24
Like Tango, I hope it ain't late 2105 cos I will have to bequeath the ticket in my will.
I wonder what they will do for a very special show. My thoughts...
Have Cott and Fingers in attendance/on stage (and Pete Barton/Bob Bradbury)
Play the first two LPs in their entirety
Have guests like Wilko Johnson and treat us to a Dr. Feelgood cover or two
Have a special edition super exclusive vinyl ep for those attending
All night after show party with DJ playing some choice cuts from the late 1970s (assuming tubes run all night by then)
I don't mind so much for "fan" events as it tends to filter out the less committed. Hurtwood and Maida Vale were all the better for being only publicised via word of mouth. Pulp's Christmas "fan" shows at The Garage (1993) and Theatre Royal Drury Lane (1994) were better than the more generally available Brixton (1995).
Good job I wasn't still on vacation otherwise I'd have missed this. As long as the venue accommodates at least 400 I should make it in. Currently at 324 likes, though I suspect a few won't actually buy tickets.

Bl00dy spoilsports. It will be 2105 before the damn thing runs all night.
London Underground's launch date for the Night Tube is to be delayed. The 24-hour weekend service on the Jubilee, Victoria and most of the Piccadilly, Central and Northern lines was due to start on September 12.
Is this a limited capacity gig? Surely a decent sized venue would be better ie 2-3,000 so that everyone who wants to go can come along. Both previous shows in london more or less sold out so surely a 40th anniversary one would do as well.
Maybe a movie type poster would help. Halloween 15(the Rats are back and hungry for blood)
Old Halloween movie taglines included- Halloween 3 The night no one comes home!
Halloween 1978-The trick was to stay alive ( after 40 years of rock and roll mayhem no doubt)

Don't know anything about it yet, maybe they are just gauging the interest before deciding. If it is to be VERY SPECIAL and first come first served then I would suspect the venue would be smaller. The 100 club has a capacity of 350, and it was pretty special seeing Paul Weller there last summer.
The late 2105(sic)/early 2016 doesn't seem to lend itself to Halloween but I like the movie poster idea.

Does the facebook page contact people directly?.Would love to go to this but it is about flights from Denmark. The sooner we know the better.
They say they will contact you via facebook or email, though not sure how they will manage the latter.
Like the page, get an invite and then worry about flights when they announce the date. I suspect it will be on a Saturday night so as to maximise attendance from those further afield. I am speculating wildly here but I suspect they have a couple of venues in mind either side of the new year and the level of responses will determine which they go with.
I've been told the details haven't yet been confirmed. Bear in mind it says 'potential' gig as well. But surely they shouldn't even mention it if isn't pretty much going to go ahead. I've not been asked to put it on the BG page and have no intention of doing so without being asked. We have 65,000 likes and it goes through to Twitter!!

I guess that if they got half a dozen likes they probably wouldn't bother. They are gauging the interest. It will either be VERY SPECIAL and have limited attendance or they might just open it up to a wider audience.
In all "like"lihood less than 50% of those who "like" are really interested and "like"ly to attend. Can't think of any reason I wouldn't be there unless I don't get a ticket. After all it is within the M25
Most of those people will want more than one ticket.
Maybe, but then they better do a couple of "like"s. I suspect everyone who "like"s will get an invite and then a fortnight later when about 20% part with the folding the remaining tickets will go on general sale.
I need 2,my brother wants another Boomtown Rats concert. He is upset they they have not played Denmark.
Do two likes on facebook They have done Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Poland, so they have been in the vicinity. They might play there next summer. Petition Roskilde now!

And to wrap it all up the singles on cd with all the B side's.
iPad is worse than iPhone. Someone will have their iPad and record the entire show lol. Not me.
I know, bl00dy terrible. To be fair though I was at the end of the front row and I obstructed no one. I didn't even have to raise the iPad above eye level.
Is there any more information on this? Loathe to book anything in case it clashes. Mrs. ArrGee is talking about going away for the weekend at some point...
Well I have "signed up" for a ticket via FB - and also roped in my 16 year old son to "like" the page in the hope that will give me 2 tickets, but it does all seem a little vague at the moment as to what the deal is! Oh well fingers crossed ...
Well maybe if there's not much demand, we can all go over to Bob's house ... Just seems a bit strange though, would far rather just know where it was (and when!) and buy a ticket! I like to keep things simple!

I suppose that if enough people sign up for it then they will do it. Not sure there is any deal as such, but my guess is that rather than have a tour with a promoter (which I'm sure would have been announced by now), the band are considering doing a one off gig and selling the tickets themselves to maximise the profit. However, if they don't get sufficient interest, they probably won't bother. The lack of a date suggests it is quite embryonic.

Agree with you here. Times running out for this year any way
Well I suppose that makes Dublin the anniversary gig, which in my opinion is more appropriate, even if a London date would have been far easier to attend.
From the comments on facebook, it seems to be a bit of an own goal.

Two gigs near enough to the 40th anniversary in Ireland is a pretty good deal. Pity the Dublin gig was not on a Friday or Saturday night to accommodate those travelling over from Britain and elsewhere and make a weekend of it.
Anyway it's much more important that the band will continue to play together into the future than a somewhat artificial 40th anniversary special event. Blimey charlie Halloween falls on 31 October so Cork(22 October) is as close as you'll ever be to the official 40th anniversity- so get yourselves down Leeside and maybe into Clancys Bar.

Close but not quite Sunday night in Dublin is fine by me. I have got the flight back, so it's just a matter of when I travel out. Not too worried about doing a weekend, especially given how expensive hotels will be on Friday and Saturday that weekend.
I would have gone to Cork if it was Friday, Saturday or Sunday, but with only 4 days vacation remaining until end March 2016, I can't take 3 for a couple of Rats gigs. Had Cork been the following week, I might have gone as it is half term, and the kids would have enjoyed a trip to Cork.
Hoping to get back early enough on the Monday morning from Dublin, but not sure I will be able to work.
I hope others will be able to get to one of Dublin or Cork instead although it is rather expensive
For some I guess, but my trips to Dublin and Cork for the Rats worked out fairly cheap both times.
Cork was mostly beer money, as I got a free ticket, didn't stay in the hotel and used my lounge pass to get breakfast on the way back. All I paid for was the flight (Ryanair cheap as chips), the bus to Cork (cheap as chips), buses to Stansted (cheap as chips) and a taxi to Cork Airport which cost about the same as the earlier bus. If I don't count the amount I spend on booze (which I would probably spend no matter where the gig was), it cost me about £60.
Im going to miss out this year. I can't afford to go to Ireland, and even if I could I'm not sure that I'd be able to get there without a passport or driving licence!

You could catch the train and the ferry! They don't ask for ID as such, your gas bill will do. About £90 return from London Euston, Doesn't seem so bad considering by the time I get buses on both sides I am paying around £60 return. Takes a bit longer, but you can have a long sleep...
Doors open at 7pm which seems to imply a support band, however I suppose there is the possibility that the Rats play could two sets with an interval (roughly speaking 8pm-9.15pm; 9.45pm-11pm ish). They may have played two gigs at the Olympia back in 1978...

11/06/1978 Olympia Theatre, Dublin with The Vipers. According to the Irish press the Rats played two concerts, one in the afternoon & one on the night.
Two gigs in one night! Only had that treat at Butlins, could definitely cope with that again! Otherwise a good support band to warm us up, like the Mighty Stef, would be cool.

Gaz Coombes is in Ireland that weekend and is free on the Sunday. Def Leppard and Slade are also are playing Dublin the same night. They could warm up at The Olympia.
If there is a support band, it is likely to be a local band, but as it is the special 40th anniversary gig, I'd rather not have one at all.
Not wishing to rain on any parades but why the expectations? Special Anniversary gig just says to me it's a 'one off' and not part of a tour, plus it's an obvious marketing strategy.
Be happy to be surprised but I'm not expecting to be.

Pulp did a couple of "special" one off gigs at Brixton a few years ago. (yes I understand the oxymoron). Although they played their core set both nights, they delved into a fair amount of their back catalogue and aired a few songs not heard this century.
I suspect that given it is a one off and there are no other dates associated with it then there is a chance the set may be a bit longer than usual. Of course, they may just play a festival set like they did in the US and let us head off to the pub at 10pm...
...anyway, no harm in speculation. Makes this bored (sic) a little interesting. And as the Captain sang, ... You gotta have a dream, if you don't have a dream, How you gonna have a dream come true?
And my dream is they play Joey's on the Street Again! Though I guess I will have to endure the nightmare of the eponymous song at the end.
