Oliver's army, Another one bites the dust. Strawberry fields forever
Common People denied by Robson and Jerome. Sorted for Es & Wizz denied by Simply Sh!te.
The Ballroom Blitz and Hellraiser denied by Wizzard, Fox on the Run denied by The Bay Sh1tty Rolllers (The Boomtown Rats of Glam Rock?)
Lola, Waterloo Sunset, This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us, Ride A White Swan, Brown Sugar, Love Shack, Sit Down, Wonderwall, Slight Return, Song 2 ...
Arguably far more better number 2s than number 1s.
The majority of number one songs are sh!t. Remember Blue have had more number ones than the Rats. West sh!te and Crap Richard have had 14 each. Rat Trap, Ghost Town, Come On Eileen, Blockbuster, Cmon feel the noise, Hot Love are rare examples of great number ones. There Are others that are great, but most are rubbish.
I can sort of see the appeal based on voice, but I recently found myself recoiling from a Faces video. Even the beautiful Ronnie Wood couldn't make up for Rod's offputting gyrating.
Just heard Looking after Number One (or unlucky not to get to number one as I refer to it ) followed by this great Sweet song from 78. The album version is even better at 7 mins long.
Gotta be for me the motors airport this was absolutely fab love it ( Andy McMaster of the motors released an albumin2017 called agenda 21 ) worth a listen
Further to my last comment. The bass player with the motors was called bram Tchaikovsky and he released some solo stuff in the1970s a song called girl of my dreams was one of the best singles of 1979 but didn't chart

I've just got round to listening to Girl of my Dreams. Great highlight Mike, like it a lot. I also agree Airport should have been a number one.
I would also add to this list Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen. Just heard it on the radio for the first time in ages.
The iconic Sixties rockers the Who burst onto the scene in 1965 with My Generation, an ode to teenage angst but despite its classic status (and it still sounds great today), it failed to go all the way to the top, instead peaking at number two. Heard it today in the car.
