An interesting article, but so many non-debatable errors, not least the spelling of Bob's surname, no previous top ten hits before Clockwork and of course there definitely was an incarnation of Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats.
And if they were a truly equal cooperative, then all the subsequent stories about royalties squabbles must have been press prattle.
You really can't believe what you read, most of it any way.
In a statement released by Cott, who quit the band in 1981, they said: "We jointly confirm that with the utmost regret we are pressing ahead with our claims against Bob Geldof and others for our rightful entitlement to a proper share of recording, publishing and merchandising income.
''We have retained the London solicitor Angel and Co to act on our behalf and anticipate that proceedings will have to be issued shortly. We have no further comment at this stage."
Two pretty reliable sources (there are plenty others)
The Brand New Retro site is quite interesting if you delve a little into it. They had a magazine cover for the Rats among other things. There was even an article by Geldof's sister on Finger's siblings lingerie store. Can't provide links, on a very restricted network at present.

Agree 100%.
I was being obtuse/sarcastic and the point was there seems little factually correct in the 78 article so that's where the press prattle is, not in the 2005 reports.

The Sunday World was somewhere between The Daily Sport and The Sun on the news spectrum. Used to read it at my grandparents on a Sunday afternoon. I say read it, but I mean look at it. Lots of pictures of girls in underwear as I remember.

I'll do the honours then.....here's the link to Lynn Geldof's article. Bet the sale must have been something, Mrs Slocombe's knickers are down by 50%, Captain Pea****......
....and the '78 results service must have been an end of year round-up? Intrigued by one of the 6 gigs the Rats had in the top 20......who've you got working for you Bob? Shown on BBC1.
