Think the story goes that band were asked to perform I Don't Like Mondays, Diamond Smiles and Looking After Number One, but they wanted to play other songs.
Deal fell apart when they suggested they play Wat Twap, Banana Wepublic and The Boomtown Wats....

In principle I agree that they should play the songs they want to play but given they haven't appeared live on broadcast TV since Live Aid, they should probably have agreed to play them just to get on the show and get a bit of publicity. If they didn't want to play Mondays, Alan could have had a little "accident" on the way and they could have made a late change to the set.
Fair play to the producers though for not letting them play the eponymous song.
Just to confirm absolutely no truth in my 'story' - was just fabricated to get the 'R' songs listed. Also aware no bands play 3 songs on the show.
ha ha! Caught me out!
Have to confess I rarely watch the show, the last time was when Pulp played. Pulp effectively played two songs if you consider the Disco 2000 riff before and after the advertisements a song. I reckon they would have used the eponymous song for that.
Is the entire story fabrication, (fabwication) or is it still going ahead?
Hardly fabrication coming from a source like Mark 'Rat'. I respect the fact that he told me, off the cuff, as it were. Anyway he had better news on the n** a***m front, but that's' all I was told.I'm happy enough with that.
I'd prefer a n** ****m to another tv appearance any day.

Another TV appearance? When was the last new one on UK broadcast TV ?
Isle of Wight and Latitude don't really count as they were tucked away on You Tube and Sky Arts. And I have yet to see the Imelda May performance on RTE.

What on earth is 'new album' partly asterisked out for?

Because if Mark Rat sees mention of it in public he will not be too pleased.Mention of said subject gets a big shush from the Rats staffer, a bit like the third secret of Fatima being given out.Better to keep on his good side. I
Cheshire Mark:I was just covering my tracks, but you will appreciate that sometimes things are said in confidence and that's the reason for the asterisks, helps me avoid being sued. That's how the music biz works.

The ****s aren't covering your tracks very well!
Surely one of the main points of a fan forum is for fans to let each other know about stuff. Hurtwood, I kept somewhat secret on request until every other "official" site and facebook/twitter started mentioning it.
If I hear anything and there is some substance to it, it goes on here. Even if it isn't confirmed "officially". That way some of us might be able to get in, especially radio and TV shows which are invite only, or at the very least book accommodation. If you are really concerned about covering your tracks, create a new user and post that way. Or just send PMs to the people that matter. i.e me!
After all, it's not as if more than a dozen or so people actually know this forum exists!

I quite agree.
Well, except that we all matter, not just you!
Wonder why all the subterfuge? Several press reports are out there with Garry quoted.
More than zero would be nice! I read recently that with the demise of music TV that new bands now look to get booked on Saturday Kitchen and Soccer AM to get some exposure. Other than that, there are the X Factor/Strictly slots, but they tend to be big MOR acts.
As an aside, Happy Mondays appeared on Singing in the Rainforest on Watch, maybe the Rats could do a turn? Banana Republic (and as jamieuka) says Go Mango would go down very well!

(I'll get my coat)
What about Mood Mango. Or Under Their Plumb. Or Please Don't Gogi.Another piece of redcurrant?
On a serious note most of the gigs sell pretty well so I'm not sure if tv appearances make a big difference. Cork was almost full but that was down to local advertising and local media and most likely friends telling each other on so called 'social media', which is email(with pics) by any other name.

They can do...
An X Factor performance had a huge effect on tracks already available to buy. Shakira benefited most from appearing on the show, selling 358% more copies of Did It Again the week after the show compared to the week before - even though the track was available for purchase 5 weeks earlier. Michael Bublé's Cry Me a River had already been available for a week before his appearance, via the album, but he benefited from a 323% increase in sales the week after the show. Leona Lewis' performance of "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" - her second performance during the 2009 finals - contributed to a 215% increase in sales even though the track had already been available, via the album, for a month.
With over 2 million viewers and on after X Factor, many of the ideal demographic would be watching. i.e. parents whose kids ain't yet old enough for them to be out every Saturday night. I'd say there's every prospect of an appearance in these circumstances getting a few more bums on seats and making a UK tour viable.
That written, I can't say we watch any live broadcast TV in our house on a Saturday night (well any night). Apart from football everything is watched on delay, demand or catch up. Must remember to not read the newspapers on Thursday though, cos there isn't much point in watching The Apprentice now...

i hardly ever watch tv-it just drives me up the wall.I devour documentaries on the Internet ie about history, science, anything that interests me, but of course most of these have been uploaded from tv.Best thing I have seen recently was a documentary about Richard Nixon, or strictly about the tape recordings he made of his friends and enemies in the early 1970s.
Was rather entertained on RTE 2 last night between 7.45 and 9.30. The look on Wengers face after the fifth goal was priceless.
TV appearances aren't so much about ticket sales, although they'd might maintain them, but about us seeing them on TV!! We want more Rats on TV. .
Good point. Though normally there is a reason for a band being on tv eg plugging a new song or the singer has been writing a book or summit.
The music scene nowadays is so fragmented. In the old days TOTP was a bit like the football league, everybody fighting it out every week for top spot and you knew where thing stood. Nowadays it's all riggin' in the friggin' charts(to invoke the Pistols).
Up to about ten years ago I felt I needed to keep up to date with modern music, which for me was always largely 'alt rock'/non mainstream music. Nowadays I haven't much of a clue, and apart from the odd newish band or artist I hear I don't care too much about being up to speed. My favorite song at the moment is Dylan's Just like Tom Thumbs Blues, and you're not gonna hear anything like that by flicking on the radio.
The Internet has been fantastic for sheer access to music but only a fraction of it is any good.
Not heard back from my application so may I reserve one just in case please?
Sure, probably end up being Robbie Williams or That That being on! Mercifully 1D have already been on and recorded, though I'm not certain you'd share my relief! Given Coldplay, Kylie and Noel Gallagher will be in town that week, I suspect one of those would be the musical guest. http://epguides.com/JonathanRossShow/
Your application may still be on the way. I got an email this morning inviting me to tonight's show off the wait list, but as I couldn't make it I let them know and they immediately sent me the tickets for 9th December.
They normally let you know who is on via the website, so if the guests aren't that interesting (not sure I would want to see Kylie) I can always cancel and let others have the opportunity to attend. Seeing Noel Gallagher two nights in a row would be cool.
I have to say if you turned up and got Robbie or Take That, it would be hilarious.
I am going to check who's on before I go in. It could be worse. Phil Collins for example. Or Chas n Dave (who are playing that week).
I actually like some of Robbie solo (not Take Cr@p) but I know you don't. Phil Collins, would be funny too. You will spoil by fun by checking before entry.

My ideal Ross guest list
Rats playing / Geldof talking ( I guess that is a given, but dare I say even better Pulp playing / Jarvis talking)
"I'm aware of the fact that I'm supposed to be Mister Articulate and to a large extent it bores me. I'm aware of the fact that I'm good for a laugh on a chat show. I'm aware of the fact that if they need a young man who's not going to make a fool of himself on a TV show they get good old Bob Geldof. He'll come out with a few long words. I dig being on TV. It doesn't needle me that people think of me as the tame punk 'cause I was never a punk In the first place. To a large section of the public I'm not tame. They have this picture of me attacking Vidal Sassoon on the Eamonn Andrews show. It's just that I couldn't tolerate him. If they're talking nonsense then I will say that."
On a chat show he shared a sofa with Vidal Sassoon who said that everyone owed it to themselves to stay in shape so he does a few lengths of his pool every day. Geldof rounded on him and pointed out that most people have knackering jobs and family responsibilities that sap their energy, as well as a notable lack of money to buy their own pool. That's good stuff, but he crowned it by then asking Sassoon if he didn't consider himself grossly overpaid for a barber.
The host is joined in the studio by Liverpool-born comedian and charity fundraiser John Bishop, whose new stand-up DVD Supersonic Live was released last month. Also appearing is indie-pop singer and musician Ellie Goulding, whose third studio album, Delirium, went on sale on November 6th.
