Shame they aren't playing Chelsea, they'd probably beat them!

Saturday 4th June 2016   Queen of the South FC , Palmerston Park DG2 9BA

Not too expert on Scottish football but I'm fairly sure Queen of the South isn't in Dunfermline...try Dumfries

Yep, a RAM entry (don't know how dodgy) and as I have just discovered Dumfries is nowhere near Dunfermline.

Geldof can honestly say 'nothing's changed' when he sees the state of Palmerston Park. Dismal old seventies ground, judging by the photos.

Off all the football stadiums in Britain.

Actually Noel, it is quite a nice little ground! Dumfries is a lovely town also. But I have never heard of bands playing there.

Status Quo (with support from Big Country and Reef) played there last summer.

At least they didn't choose Central Park, Cowdenbeath!

http://www.footballgroundguide.com/leagues/scottish-spl-premier-and-football-league-clubs/scottish-championship/queen-of-the-south-palmerston-park.html

It sounds great!  Even has a Clock End, much like the old home of the Kings of the North (London).

 queen-of-the-south-fc-palmerston-park-portland-drive-terrace-1435051368.jpg

The roof has a gable perched upon it, which features a traditional looking clock. This terrace is now the largest remaining terrace at a football ground in Scotland.

"This is perhaps one of the best, if not the best day out in the first division. A hospitable ground, good facilities, placed in a town that is enjoyable to visit."

Not exactly lively though...

...spot the fan

After Bob Bradbury Rats played a festival thing in Fife around 3 years ago I stopped off there on way back to Edinburgh before flight, for game against Airdrie. Big old ground for the level, but very friendly. Still got my Blue Brazil t-shirt

I'm guessing Rats at QOTS will be part of a bigger thing, i.e. 3 or 4 bands on the bill at least, like the one's at Whitehaven and Tring. Still, any dates into the future are a bonus, and I like to visit places that wouldn't normally be a destination of choice (full circle to Cowdenbeath there!).

Bring it on!

I guess Rats may not be headliners.  The attendance last time out for Quo was over five thousand.

Good dress rehearsal for the twenty nights at Croke Park.

There is a great website called 'Worst Football Grounds in Britain'. Great for a bit of fun, with excellent descriptions of some of the most dismal places one could wish to visit.lets say some of the photos of the QOTS ground don't include the large gaps  between the 'stands'.

Anyway gives me a chance  to say Forfar 4 East Fife 5smile

When they play their twenty nights at Croke Park, it will be twice  the number of current appearance holders U2 who currently have ten appearances there according to setlist.fm.  Neil Diamond (5) and Westlife (4) are next.  Garth Brooks should have had eight, but alas it was not to be...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-28236263

Maybe The Rats had these sorts of problems and just decided to only play The Olympia Theatre.

Of course, it is likely that many GAA teams have appeared there more than a dozen times, even Clare!

I could have sworn there was one of that name, but it seems to be no longer around. Plenty of coverage of rubbish football grounds however with some great descriptions. Someone describes Luton's Kenilworth Rd as being like 'a football ground attached to  a penitentiary' LOL

East Fife is possibly the worst ground in Britain. Called  Bayview but the bay view is blocked by a crumbling power plant:

That power plant has now been demolished Noel. The area left is just grass.

Having done the 92 English/Welsh grounds and 39 Scottish, Cowdenbeath gets my vote for worst ground!

Thought I was going to have to get one last week when Mrs. ArrGee called me in the queue for the Royal Albert Hall.  Was 100% sure she knew, but after umpteen nights out last week I hadn't mentioned it that morning.   All smoothed over now, but the outcome is I am at home watching Gremlins with the kids tonight rather than doing the work party followed by Maximo Park at The Roundhouse

Anyway just The Damned left to do this year.

Reminds me of where we used to sometimes play near the gasworks.  Mostly memorable in my case as it's where some cnut tried to rip my left leg apart with a scissor tackle.

I can't find this gig listed anywhere except this post. How did someone find out about it? (I'm not calling anyone a liar! I'm just happily curious)

Rock Artist Management is run by Pete Barton, who was instrumental in getting Rats back on the road when he persuaded Garry and Simon to resurrect songs and tour, and he still acts as a booking agent for them.

Always worth waiting for official confirmations from Rats' website or more likely Facebook page, or even Geldof website, before making any plans to travel etc.

Fingers crossed....

If you can pick up flexible flights and hotels etc, it's worth booking. Otherwise wait.

Thanks, but can't take any credit for spotting this one or indeed most of the whispers. You need to thank ArrGee and Jules in the main for finding new links.

If you are thinking of going don't book to go to Dunfermline!

Arrgee is especially good at finding stuff, he keeps up to date with RAM. I think it's most prospective/pencilled in dates, but it's worth having pencilled in in your own calendar if you're hoping to go.

Thanks, but all I do is find dates so if anyone has any intention of going they can book hotels and all the non-refundable stuff before the hoards descend.

Unlike Euro 2016.  Every hotel in Bordeaux and Lille booked up solid, and I seem to have ended up in the grottiest hotel in Paris.  Too slow off the mark, should have just booked every city for every game ahead of the draw.  Still I suspect a few rooms will free up once the tickets are allocated.  Only trouble then is the trains will all get booked!

Dumfries, south western Scotland. Haven't checked but probably about as close to Carlisle as to Glasgow, although if you're considering guess Glasgow flight then train is best option.

The Boomtown Rats are to headline a 1980s-themed concert at Queen of the South's Palmerston Park in Dumfries.

Eighties acts Rick Astley, ABC, The Stars from The Commitments and The Rezillos will also perform at the event on 4 June.

Rick Astley!!! FFS!  They'd have to pay me £45 and a £5 booking fee.

Tickets for The Concert at Queens cost £45 for Adults and £22.50 for 16 and under and can be purchased NOW. Tickets are on sale from the Club Shop, by calling 01387 254853 and online http://www.qosfcstore.com/the-concert-at-queens-tickets

I reckon it'd be easier for Derek to get to Brentwood. I reckon a taxi from Stansted wouldn't cost that much.

Depends if Derek can get a flight direct to Glasgow.

Maybe, but Dumfries isn't that near, it's 80 miles away.  Only 25 miles from Stansted to Brentwood.   Can get National Express to Stratford and train out to Brentwood.

I'm thinking of driving up for this one if that might sway anyone's decision. Would stay Sat night only.

Leaving London area (very) early and most likely M40, M42, M5, M6 if you're en route or can be and happy to share fuel. Room for 3 more in car, or 4 at a push but wouldn't want to be that passenger for 350 miles each way myself...

At a rough guess I'd say four in car works out approx £25 each, at today's rates.
