"Now Helene is setting the record straight on Paula's turbulent life - from early signs of mental illness, hysteria and attention-seeking to fleeting happiness and success - in her explosive autobiography Big Girls Don't Cry, to be serialised in the Mirror next week."

This is being serialised in the Mirror newspaper. For todays instalment go to

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/showbiz/tm_objectid=16807158%26method=full%26siteid=94762%26headline=the%2dyear%2ds%2dmost%2dexplosive%2dbook%2d%2dmy%2dpaula-name_page.html

Helene speaks very highly of Bob throughout the book seemingly.

I realise I have duplicated Arr Gee's thread on the Geldof page. Unintentionally though.

Just reading that link brought tears to my eyes. The pain Helene must have felt from not seeing her daughter before her death must have been unbareable. I think writting this book has been a very brave move which would have taken unbelievable courage..

Perhaps writing it all helped and was therapeutic. Hopefully.

Ian, Tina - When does this website become just about Bob, the musician and the band? I'm starting to annoy myself, getting annoyed and opinionated about the stuff that shouldn't belong here.

The forum is now independent of the website (and has been since the turn of the year).

So while the site itself will focus on the music, the forum will remain more wide-ranging and allow the discussion of all matters related to Geldof in the public domain.

However, your point is valid.  Many of us are only here for the music and care little for Geldof's other activities and personal affairs.

To that end, I could split the Bob Geldof sub-forum into "Bob Geldof - His Music" and "Bob Geldof - The Man" if this would help to reduce the annoyance which I fully understand.  All opinions welcome.

Feel free to suggest alternative headings.

Can you always split the man and his music anyway? What makes him tick also affects his music.( or would do if there was any at the moment. ) He did state again at Glasgow that he wants to concentrate on his music this year. GOOD! Let Annie Lennox take over. (see Live 8 link)

And P.P. if you can't have a rant to your friends, who can you rant to? We are all on the same side.

Why do people want to split Bob the activist & Bob the musician. They both go together. I don't think the forum should be split. I don't agree with the decision for the wesite to be officially about only his music either. Its called bobgeldof.info & as his offical wesite should involve anything he is publically linked to. I know there are links to other websites but I'd rather it was the same as before.

OK, the forum has spoken and I will leave things exactly as they are.  Thanks for your feedback.

nope....even though Jokers Wild covered that song on their ep, it was originally by Frankie Valli and the Four Tops, made in -62 I think..

oh, and about the other issue, no, don't seperate the musicman from the activistman..

If we are going to discuss private affairs we must be really careful not to be libellous.

Also at what point do we start to cross a line which is unacceptable? Perhaps things ought to be made clear about all this?

The only thing that could be libellous is writing something that is untrue and involves defamation of character http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slander_and_libel

There is nothing, nor has there been anything, on this board that has been libellous.  In fact, far from it.  I don't think quoting an article/book and offering the type of opinions on here is even close to unacceptable.

Dare I say it, but the whole Paula/Bob/Michael situation is one that has received very little attention on this board.  One of my fears is that one day this subject explodes and all I do is admin related to it. Paula Yates is seldom mentioned; I find that surprising, given how integral she was to Geldof's life.

I wasn't suggesting that there had been anything in the past, just wanted to clarify for the future.

Some of this appeared in this week's Hello magazine.

Sad that Paula's Mum has seen so little of her grandchildren over the years. Wonder why she doesn't fly over to London the odd time to visit?

Wonder if she knows my friend's mum who lives in Provence....?  (I have no idea how large Provence is.)
